King(s) Of The Hill

from Troy Thompson 11 September 2016

Once again the weather gods tried to spoil another day of karting here in WA. This time they had the King of the Hill at the Hurricane Go Kart Club in Wundowie last month in their sights. Thankfully the rain only lasted for half a day and most classes got at least two dry races.

The event featured the TaG 125 Restricted Light and Heavy classes. For 2016 the Kings of the Hill were Thomas Bowsher (Light) & Matthew Randle (Heavy). Both drivers consistently ran at the pointy end of the field in the difficult and varying conditions. Congratulations to both.

Young gun Damon Papasergio was dominant in the Junior KA4 Light and Junior KA3 classes, dropping only one race between the two classes.

The only other driver to run as consistently on the day was the experienced Michael Jones in Senior KA3 Combined class, winning three races - and most importantly the final which was closely contested against teenagers Ben Harders, Tom Schou & Shae Thompson. Less than one second separated the four.

There was some great racing in the other classes with the conditions producing a variety of results during the day. Surprisingly there wasn’t a single red flag which is a credit to the drivers and the general standard of driving. They drove to the conditions - well, as much as a racer will anyway.

The day finished with a brilliant fireworks display and a free feed for everyone. The rain returned just as the fireworks finished. Perfect timing!
