Bray Enjoys Productive Weekend In Sweden

press release 11 July 2016

Globetrotting Kiwi karter Daniel Bray has enjoyed a productive weekend contesting a round of the Swedish Karting Championship at Kristianstad, finishing ninth in the KZ2 class Final.

The 29-year-old from Auckland made the long trip to the Asum Ring kart track in the south of the country to gain track and kart set-up knowledge ahead of this year's CIK-FIA International Super KZ2 Super Cup meeting being held there over the first weekend of September.

Driving for the GP Karts Denmark team Bray qualified 18th and carded a best finish of fourth in his heats to be classified ninth overall heading into the Pre-Final.

With the weather changing, the works GP Karts driver was caught out with the wrong set-up for the wet Pre-Final, slipping back to 15th, then was forced to use his practise engine in the Final after the main one ran a bearing while being warmed up between races.

Despite that Bray was able to work his way back up through the field to eighth place before being pushed back to ninth with just two laps to go.

"It actually turned into a really good race," he said from the track. "A lot of the top drivers in Europe were there because of the Super Cup meeting in September and I ran with the lead pack early on before the tyre pressures got a bit high making it hard to hang on over the last eight laps.

"Overall it was a worthwhile trip. We learnt a lot in terms of chassis development as well as how important it is to get the tyre pressures just right at the track."

Bray now returns home for a fortnight before getting back on an aeroplane, this time to fly to the United States where he is set to defend his early season lead in the premier S1 class at the (double-header) third and fourth rounds of this year's Superkarts USA Pro Tour in Indiana over the July 23-24 weekend.
