With Yamaha KT100J and S engines now almost nonexistent in KA-sanctioned karting, it could be argued the sport no longer has an entry-level engine that can be purchased at an entry-level price.
Sprint karts have traditionally been powered by 2-stroke engines. But what if there was an inexpensive (say, under $1000), sealed, entry-level 'spec' 4-stroke class? Would you jump on board?
