Devastation to Spectacular: East Coast Over 40s Titles

from Troy Brown 21 June 2016

The 22nd running of the Geoff King Motors East Coast Over 40s Titles was held at Coffs Harbour Kart Club on the June 10-12 long weekend.

Club members had done a brilliant job preparing the facility for their annual event. But the week prior, heavy rains flooded the venue causing all sorts of damage and chaos.

An amazing week of effort from club members turned the devastation around, re-building the facility ready for the three-day event.

"The efforts were more than acknowledge by competitors and spectators" Troy Brown informed KartSportNews.

Large fields in most of the classes enjoyed perfect dry conditons for racing, and got plenty of track time with qualifying, two heats, two pre-finals and one Final.

"It was a nice surprise and privilege to have motor sport legends Mick Doohan and James Courtney call in for the official opening" Brown added.

"(They) were amazed at how Coffs Club managed to not only get the place cleaned up, but to present it better than some of the places James races at.

"Everyone appreciated their time to have a chat and take some photos as well as fit in the media commitments to promote karting and the club."
