Who'll Be The 2016 McDonald's Young Gun?

press release 16 June 2016

Young Launceston driver Jackson Callow will emulate some of Tasmania's best karters this weekend if he is able to claim back-to-back McDonald's Young Guns.

In the 19 previous Young Gun races, five drivers have been able to go back-to-back, including inaugural winner Mitchell Russell in 1998-1999. Otheres include Aiden Shelton 2002-2003, Daimon Shelton 2004-2005, Danton Evans 2008-2009 and Zevie Eisentraut 2014-2015.

Last year, Callow and Eisentraut were joint winners with both the Yamaha J and the new KA100 engines being used. Callow will, however, be battling some very determined karters as well as a weight disadvantage as the Young Guns race is over 20 laps at the pro weight of 136kg.

Another Launceston Kart Club member Tate Frost may very well start favourite for the race after some very impressive form on the mainland recently. Others likely to be at the pointy end during the race will be Smithton’s Logan Dixon, Hobart’s Brock Lamont and a trio of LKC members in Connor Griffin and brothers Kurtis and Kyle Love.

McDonald's have been the sponsor of the Young Guns race since its inception in 1998 and the Launceston Kart Club wishes to thank McDonald's for the ongoing support of the club.

As an added bonus the McDonald's Young Guns meeting will now include the inaugural Cadet 9 and Cadet 12 Young Guns award.

The LKC are proud to announce that long-time supporters of the club as well as Karting Tasmania - the Wyllie Family - have had the award named in the honour. The winner of this award will be based on a points system across qualifying and racing for both the Cadet 9 and Cadet 12 classes.

The meeting is also a round of the 2016 Tasmanian Karter of the Year with a full contingent of classes competing including KA3 Junior, KA3 Senior, KA4 Senior, TaG Restricted and TaG 125.
