Top Driver Boost For NZ Prokart Series Final

press release 10 June 2016

Two of the country's top KZ2 class karters, Daniel Bray and Graeme Smyth, are back from overseas and will be competing at the final round of this year's ProKart Series in Hamilton this weekend.

The pair, both from Auckland, have been busy of late racing in other countries, Bray on the SuperKarts USA (SKUSA) Pro Tour in the United States and in the KZ2 class at major kart meetings in Mexico, and Smyth racing a Ferrari sportscar in Australia.

Another karter who has enjoyed success in cars, Wanganui's Aaron Marr, will also be racing a KZ2 kart in the ProKart Series races which are the main draw at the big Winter Cup meeting at Hamilton this weekend, ahead of a full series' return next season.

Points-wise it's still close in each class, though long-time leaders Simeon Woolsey (KZ2), Jared MacKenzie (KZ2 Masters) and Garry Cullum (KZ2 Restricted) all from Auckland remain favourites to take the overall series titles in their respective classes at this weekend's meeting.

Woolsey, for instance, has a seven point buffer over fellow young gun Aaron Wilson in KZ2 with Logan Brown and local ace Rhys Tinney set to fight for the final podium spot.

Graeme Lambert from Mangakino stepped up to claim his first KZ2 Masters class win at the penultimate ProKart Series round at Tokoroa last month, but Jared MacKenzie retained his series lead and heads to Hamilton with an eight point buffer on series promotor Steve Brown with Lambert a further three points back in third.

Garry Cullum, meanwhile, is back to full race fitness after colliding with an unsighted kart at Tokoroa and takes a 10-point advantage over the driver who claimed the class win at that track in his absence, Connor Adam,  with Shaun Curran in third just one point adrift of Adam.

Also on the race card at the Winter Cup meeting this weekend are races for Rotax Light, Heavy, DD2 and Junior classes, and both Vortex Mini ROK and Cadet ROK classes.

There will be qualifying and heat races for the ProKart Series on Saturday and racing for both the ProKart Series and other Winter Cup classes on Sunday.
