Ford Warms Up For Euro Superkarts

  31 May 2016

Current Australian 250cc National Superkart Champion, Jordan Ford stormed to three convincing wins at Sydney Motorsport Park on the weekend.

Using the first National Series round as a warm up for this weekend’s second round of the European Superkart Championship at Donnington in the UK, Ford took pole and three race wins in dominant fashion, winning by over 20 seconds in each race. Unfortunately a spun piston ring, which occurred on the cool down lap of the first race, was only discovered just prior to the second, leading to a non-start and placing Jordan second overall for the weekend.

Ford’s Yamaha powered Anderson Maverick was on song in Sunday's races and he consistently diced with the faster 250cc International karts. The main aim of the weekend was to test Dunlop’s DFS compound tyre, which is used in the CIK Championship and has characteristics far different from the locally used DEM-DAU variety. Developed primarily for the European market the tyres took longer to heat up and weren’t quite as fast as the lap record times set last year by Ford.

The team is currently travelling to the UK and will visit the Anderson Karts factory on Wednesday followed by testing at the Donnington GP Circuit on Thursday prior to the weekend’s two European Championship races that culminate with the British Superkart GP on Sunday afternoon. Ford will use a brand new Anderson chassis powered by a DEA single cylinder engine pumping out 70 plus horsepower.

This campaign would not be possible without the generous support of Dunlop Kartsport Australia and its dk17.com.au online superstore, Burbank Homes, Anderson Karts, Slipstream Signs, C4 Racing Oils, Robot Technologies Australia, Sunbury Collision Centre, A&R Fabrications, KartSportNews.com and logbooks.com.au.
