Golden Power Series, Round 2

by Daryl Buck 19 May 2016

Friday 6th May saw a perfect 25-degree day for set up for round 2 of the Golden Power Series at Rochester.

Plenty of drivers took an early advantage by getting to the track before lunch and getting in some practice sessions prior to the 4pm entries opening. There was plenty of discussion about the weather and what could be expected on Saturday and Sunday. At the close of entries 145 drivers would greet the starter the next morning.

Saturday

Another cracking day, crisp and clear skies turned into a carbon copy of Friday. The front half of the field had three races and the back half got through two races before drinks were called.

At the close of racing many of the competitors changed over to a full wet set up, preparing for what was to come on Sunday.

Sunday

What a difference a day makes! The rain moved in overnight and the racers were greeted with very different conditions.

The rain was heavy enough that racing was in jeopardy. A track inspection and the thumbs up was given and racing was underway, although the prefinal  was dropped and after 3 rounds the finals began.
