from Troy Brown 11 May 2016

Coffs Harbour Kart club hosted the second round of the Bartercard Northern Zone Series last weekend and it was great to see a good roll up of competitors.

The track was presented immaculate as usual and the weather was even better, which proved to be perfect for track times as lap records were busted left right and center.

Competitors travelled from all regions and even a few Queenslanders made an appearance, but all left commenting on how great the place looks and how good is it to go to a race meeting and be treated like a guest for the sole purpose of having fun.

The Cadet 12s show amazing pace and great skills in a competitive field. Many lead changes and some great passing created a great race to watch.

The Cadet 9s had a great battle mixing it with the older Cadet12. There were some huge smiles as the race was fun and enjoyable. Jakob set some amazing times right through the day and deserved the win. A big mention to Seth Brown competing in his first ever race with a Comer motor was able to put in fast smooth laps to match the Mini ROK speed and in turn making some beautiful passes throughout the day and setting a lap record for the Comer.

Final Result

Lachlan had a great day clean sweeping the junior class, however the rest of the field decided to mix it up and create some interesting racing and a couple of unfortunate accidents made for some good racing.

With the Over 40s Titles just over a month away there were a few familiar faces turn up for a bit of early practice. The KA3 class was going to be a tight affair with the whole field within 8 tenths of each other. With wins each for the top 3 contenders through the heats, the final was going to be interesting and they didn’t let us down, with Mitchell taking out the win. Blair Smith took out the win in Light class with his first time to Coffs.

As usual the TaG100 competitors were out there pushing hard but still having fun. To see a stock Yamaha Sec producing these sort of times was just an eye opener to a lot of people.

Final Result

  1. Bailey BERESFORD

  3. John Carbis

With a large field of 17 Restricted Heavy guys you know this was going to be a category to watch. Sure enough 5 competitors decided to take a closer look at the beautiful manicured grass at the end of the main straight on the first lap. DNFs were going to prove costly in this class and, with all points counting, consistency was going to make the difference.

Bailey and Jake swapped results all day and John showed consistent times and staying out of trouble got him on the podium. A few of the Coffs members decided to have a bit of a coming together which required a fair few spare parts thrown at the karts to get back on the grid. The onboard videos made for some good viewing.

Final Result

  1. Daniel Ferry
  2. Derek Jones
  3. Geoffrey Goesch

Another large field of 17 had turned up and for this class racing got a little more serious as times were smashed. Not much could separate this field as the top 6 drivers all were in the hunt. Daniel took out the heats but Derek was able to put it together for the final.

KA4 Junior Light

Qual:

  1. Zakiah-Reginald VARLEY Arrow/Ka100 00:46.158

  3. Harrison HOTTES CRG/Ka100 00:46.282

Final Result

  1. Zachary BURGE
  2. Harrison HOTTES
  3. Zakiah-Reginald VARLEY

A good size field of Juniors was going to make for some good racing. The heats proved it was going to be a tough call to pick the winner with the top 8 competitors all getting a top 3 finish throughout the heats. Once again consistency and great speed proved the winning combination for Zachary.

TaG 125 Light

Qual:

  1. Timothy AEBI Tony/Rotax  00:44.491
  2. Jake WHEELER Tony/Rotax 00:44.574
  3. Luke COLLETT Tony/Rotax 00:44.611

Final Result

  1. Jake WHEELER
  2. Timothy AEBI
  3. Luke COLLETT

Not a lot could separate the whole TaG Light field. Results were shared throughout the heats but Jake was just too quick in the end. The local Coffs boys couldn’t  be separated and maybe Luke may want his old kart back from Tim.

TaG 125 Heavy

Qual:

  1. Troy BROWN Arrow/Iame 00:45.290
  2. Paul HULL Arrow/Iame 00:46.701
  3. Daniel CATALDI Exprit/Iame 00:47.179

Final Result:

  1. Troy BROWN
  2. Paul HULL
  3. Daniel CATALDI

The local wasn’t going to give the other guys a chance in this class. Backing up his win from last years Over 40s, Troy wasn’t touched taking a clean sweep. Troy was on the run all day with the organizing of the meeting, official duties, racing himself and getting his son ready for his first race, but in the end he was pleased with the result and happy the club could put on such a great race meeting - thanks to Bartercard and the members that helped - and that competitors and spectators would leave Coffs with a high regard for what they do.
