Karting News Briefs

  10 May 2016

Don't care what type of karting; if it's karting, it can be on KartSportNews...

  • The date for the second round of the 2016 TaG Super Series at Newcastle has been changed. The TaG racing will now take place on Saturday, May 21 and not Sunday the 22nd as originally scheduled. See the series calendar on the TaG Australia website HERE.

  • Attention South Australian karters - AiM SportSystems will be at the Monarto AKC round this weekend for all 3 days.

"We will be there to assist our dealers and customers with product support, technical advice and any setup information. We will also be there to assist our dealers and new customers with our new release MyChron5."

For assistance or advice on any of the three days, contact Ron on 0418 424 560.

  • More info on the big dollar Mildura All Power Nationals later this month (and check out www.allpowernationals.com for the Supp Regs etc):

  • Poor driving standards in the Cadet class has reared its head in the UK. The MSA has sent a message to all its Clerks and Stewards regarding the matter. There's even suggestions that teams and mechanics may be advising their young drivers to intentionally make contact with other karts during races. More on Kartlink HERE.

  • Dylan Hollis has announced he will rejoin the team at CC Racing for the remainder of the 2016 season. "I am very thankful to Clint and Pete (Cathcart) and look forward to picking up where we left off with having my most successful years as a junior with CC Racing" he wrote on Facebook.

"Our main focus will be on Rotax Pro Tour where I am currently leading the Championship. With the guidance and support of TWM backed with CC Racing engines, we look forward to finishing the remaining rounds of the Pro Tour with a positive outlook."

  • NQ Sprint Titles up at Townsville, last weekend of May:

  • Vintage Roadshow at Bundaberg later this month:

  • Ballarat Bolts and Fasteners are supporting the Cadet 9 and Cadet 12 classes in the 2016 Victorian Country Series. The organisation is providing end-of-series cash prizes of 1st $150, 2nd $125, 3rd $100, 4th $75, 5th $50. Best 5 rounds count for VCS points and 25% more points are on offer at the final round.

  • Another Woodgate EVO chassis almost ready for a customer. The photos below are of a new setup for a Rotax MAX Superkart racer, but the Woodgate EVO can also be delivered ready-to-race in 125cc Gearbox sepcification. www.woodgateracing.com also have MAXXIS HG3 tyres in stock.

  • The famous Lonato circuit in Italy has renewed its fleet of rental karts, taking delivery of a bunch of CRG Centurion chassis powered by Honda GX400cc engines, plus Centurion Mini karts with 120cc Honda engines for 7-12 year olds. Excluding racing events, the circuit operates hire karts Monday to Friday from 5pm to midnight and 2pm to midnight on weekends and during holiday periods.

  • On the topic of hire karts, Slideways have opened a spectacular new centre at Nerang on the Gold Coast. The 475m combined indoor and outdoor circuit is split across a three-level structure. The centre uses French Sodi Karts running 270cc 9HP Honda engines.

  • NT Championship, one-event title:

  • TEAM PR - Fast Karts Racing Developments had three drivers competing at the opening round of the NSW State Championship in Canberra. In KA3 Senior Heavy, Dean O'Brien showed great pace all weekend qualifying on the front row and maintaining his speed through to the final. He rounded out the weekend with a strong win in the final. In KA3 Senior Light, Brad Newman had issues in qualifying and James O'Malley started out strongly off P3 in the heats. A string of bad luck in the heats saw the pair starting the final further back than their speed was capable of. While the tight circuit made it very difficult to pass, the pair made strong progress to finish 5th and 6th right in the mix in the front group for the length of the longer final, showing both drivers very capable of racing to the podium. The Team is looking forward to the next round held by the Sydney Kart Racing Club at the Newcastle circuit, June 17-19.

  • The Mackay Kart Club advise they will incorporate Comer and Yamaha J & S engines into the new class structure for their local race meetings. The classes will run as per rule book (ie, need correct tyres and rear bumper) but the Comer and Yamaha engined karts will compete as a separate race within each category and begin each race behind the new-gen motors. "So if you still have these engines and are keen to race, please come along - the more numbers we get the better it will be for all drivers" the club stated.

  • The trailer below was stolen from Kilmore (Vic) a bit over a week ago. It is a one-of-a-kind build with unique features inside and out and was in the final stage of being finished off. If you see anything that looks like this, contact Mike Robotham on 0449 542 418.

  • A Photo Gallery from the South Australian Dirt Kart Titles at Bordertown on the weekend is now available on the westcoastsentinel.com.au website - click HERE.

  • DRIVER PR - Tasmanian teenager Tate Frost is hoping he'll be one of the Juniors to watch this weekend at Round 3 of the Australian Kart Championship at Monarto, South Australia. Frost completed a three day test aboard his FA Kart at the Monarto venue last weekend with the James Sera outfit and was on the pace from the get go. The Taswegian qualified fastest in the KA4 Junior class at round 2 and backed that up with a heat win and a top ten finish in the final. He sits 9th in the National standings and hopes to continue his good form and crack the top five this weekend.

  • A freshly re-surfaced track should give karters plenty of grip to work with at round 3 of the popular AUSTRANS Victorian Country Series in Warrnambool this weekend. The meeting will be a hotly contested lead up event for the Vic State Cup at the venue later this year. Over 170 karters have already pre-entered and will be in the running some great "Kerbrider of the day" prizes ($750 worth of merchandise up for grabs via the steward voted prizes).
