Karting News Briefs

The good, the bad...

  • The F100 90s Garda Cup featured more than just noisy 20,000RPM screamers the other week. There was also a marriage proposal during the drivers' photo! That, plus track and pit footage in the following video by karting1.co.uk:

  • A Toowoomba man, a former treasurer of the Australian Karting Association of Queensland, has pleaded guilty to defrauding the Toowoomba Go Kart Club of more than $30,000. Read more on The Chronicle website HERE.

  • Great to see Graeme Monds and Leonie Curley are back trackside! The two were photographed in the canteen at the Gippslnad Go Kart Club's April race day last weekend by Steve Dansie.

  • Remo Luciani shared some findings from testing at Geelong last week and doing some kart development for DPE Kart Technology on the Dunlop tyre.
    • Remo's Tip: "Predominantly, try to work on the front end of your kart to take the steering away and try to give the rear more grip. We also achieved a better balance by running more negative and a cut-down hard axle."

  • George Gutierrez will drive Josh Denton's TD Racing team's Vortex DVS powered Kosmic Kart in the KA1 class at round three of the 2016 Australian Kart Championship. George is no stranger to the Monarto track having won a Junior Clubman state championship there in 2010. He is looking forward to the challenge of stepping into what is one of the country’s fastest karts. “What a fantastic opportunity to get back behind the wheel of a kart again especially with the team of Craig and Josh Denton at TD Racing" he said. "When Josh asked me it was a very simple decision. I have won at the track before so who knows, with a little time and some good clean racing anything is possible."

  • Coroner Audrey Jamieson found the Victorian Karting Association failed to protect teenager Jack Irvine at a VKA Junior Development camp at the Oakleigh track in 2012. The 15-year-old went into anaphylactic shock and died as a result of consuming a White Chocolate Chip & Macadamia Nut Subway cookie at the camp. A 7News article reports the coroner's finding is not the end of court proceedings for the Irvine family, which is suing Subway, the franchisee and the Victorian Karting Association for damages in the Supreme Court. The family decided to donate Jack's organs. More on 7News HERE, plus Herald-Sun HERE.

  • Is there someone at your club who can write up a bit of a race report, take a few photos and email it to me for publication on KartSportNews? I'm more than happy to give your club, its members and drivers some recognition for their racing efforts, whether that be a small club race meeting, or big time pro event. I can only give club level karting more coverage if there are some kind people who can help contribute the news. Learn how to do that by checking out the Contribute page    :)

    Cheers,
