“Clean sweep for Car in DD2 as Jenner returns to the top in Rotax Light at Eastern Creek Pro Tour”

There has been great success at the new home track and headquarters for Compkart Australia on the weekend, the Eastern Creek International Kart Raceway. In just his third event in the DD2 category, Joshua Car has secured a clean sweep of the two-speed gearbox class at the Rotax Pro Tour, headlining a successful weekend for the team which also saw Victorian Brad Jenner return to the winners circle in Rotax 125 Light.

Car started his weekend in the best way possible by securing pole position with a 39.286, placing him at the front of the field for Saturday’s three 12 lap heat races. Multiple battles throughout the course of the shorter sprint races for Joshua’s lead tested him to the limit however he managed to come through with the win on all three occasions.

The weekend’s two longer races again saw Joshua engaged in a battle for position however he managed to open up a more significant lead, taking the victory by 2.1 seconds in the pre-final and 1.6 seconds in the final, earning maximum points from the weekend. Entering the weekend, DD2 series points leader Troy Woolston (CC Racing) looked to be one of the favourites to take the win, qualifying fifth, Woolston finished as high as second in heat two with a fifth and sixth place finish in heat one and three respectively. Troy then backed it up with fifth in the pre-final before just missing out on a third podium from three starts for the season, taking sixth in the final.

Brad Jenner started the weekend out determined to back a healthy amount of series points and bring himself up in the standings, qualifying sixth in Rotax 125 Light, Jenner managed to finish third in heat one before an eighth and twelfth place finish in heat two and three put him further back than he would have liked.

Determined to make amends and earn himself important series points, Brad picked his way to fourth by the end of the pre-final before a chaotic 22 lap final saw him move to the lead and take a 1.3 second race win, his first round victory of the 2016 season. In his first meeting in a Compkart, Queensland’s Nicholas Andrews started his weekend with ninth in qualifying before making good progress in the heats with fifth, sixth and tenth. Finishing seventh in the pre-final, Andrews was well placed for a run at a podium finish however an unfortunate DNF after nine laps due to an incident would bring an early end to Nicholas’ weekend.

Scott Howard’s Pacific Kartsport prepared Compkart was in form from the beginning, taking pole position in DD2 Masters with a 39.819. A second and first place finish in heat one and two was a good beginning to the weekend for the Queenslander and showed he was heading in the right direction however contact from an incident after nine laps in heat three would see him record a DNF. A return to his early weekend speed in both the pre-final and final earnt Scott second place in both races, more silverware and critical series points.

Zed Corse’s Scott Simpson qualified tenth, backing it up with two eighth place finishes and an eleventh place result in the heats before securing ninth in both the pre-final and final. Dean Wanless qualified 12th before recording a sixth place result in heat one with 12th in heat two and a DNF in heat three with the two finals seeing him finish 12th and 13th.

Corey Lean began his weekend in good form in the Stones Karting prepared Compkart, qualifying fifth in Rotax 125 Heavy. Two seventh place finishes across heat one and two followed by a rise to fourth in heat three handed Lean a good starting position for the first of the two finals. A sixth place result in the pre-final, backed up by sixth in the final ended Corey’s weekend successfully. A post-race penalty applied to a fellow competitor elevated him to fifth and secured a podium finish.

Lewis Hodgson provided the best results of the three Compkart Junior Max drivers, qualifying 12th with an eighth and sixth place finish in heat one and two. Despite a DNF in heat three, Hodgson returned focussed to finish 13th and 12th in the two finals.

Luke Wanless qualified 22nd in Junior Max before finishing 26th and 23rd in the opening two heat races followed by a DNF in heat three. Wanless then recorded a 20th place finish in the pre-final with an unfortunate DNF in the final. Harrison Hoey qualified 20th for Zed Corse before finishing 15th in heat one and 24th in heat two. Despite a DNF in heat three, Hoey managed to take 15th in the pre-final, disappointingly however he recorded a DNF in the final.

The next major event for Compkart Australia will be round three of the 2016 Australian Kart Championship that takes place at Monarto, South Australia from May 13-15.
