Port Macquarie Doing Their Own Thing

  4 March 2016

Further to last months announcement they will be running an 'independant' 4-round series, the Port Macquarie Kart Club has issued a press release regarding its new direction.

Release 3/3/16

A New Direction for Port Macquarie Kart Club Port Macquarie Kart Club is now running its race meetings under its own sanction & regulations.

Following a dispute with Karting NSW over track licencing, along with falling membership & participation the club decided that a new approach was necessary to rejuvenate interest in club racing in the region.

Accordingly the club has secured its own NSW Dept. Sport & Recreation Track License as well as insurance for competitors and official to the same level provided by KNSW.

PMKC now conduct their race meetings under their own sanction, with their own regulations, officials, licences etc.

This initiative has allowed the club to run classes, regulations, formats, tyres etc. that are more user friendly, cost effective & hassle free to attract more members & competitors.

Importantly, the club now welcomes competitors with K.A., C.A.M.S., A.I.D.K.A., & A.K.R.A. licence holders as well as issuing a FREE yes free! PMKC club racing licence to newcomers who turn up to race or practice without a licence. In fact when you enter a PMKC race meeting all entrants are provided a free 12 month racing licence that can be used at all PMKC race meetings. So if you only want to compete at PMKC club events you don’t have to purchase any other racing license just use your free club licence for a full 12 months of low cost, hassle free racing.

This fresh approach has already attracted over 20 new club members as well as increased attendances at club days.

Club spokesman Tracy Stewart stated ‘With all the problems karting and this club has experienced over the last 2 years we had no option than to find a new direction & ways to lower costs, put the fun back into karting, take away the hassles and make it more accessible to more people.

"Without members and competitors the sport will die. We are determined to turn that around and so far we have seen an immediate improvement. We recognise that one of the major problems is the high cost of karting, especially to new competitors & club racers. We are working hard to reduce costs to our members by offering free PMKC racing licences, reduced entry fees, & classes that are more affordable.

"All PMKC members also enjoy FREE practice at any time at our track. This is another way that we are trying to make karting more affordable to the average karter" Stewart said. ‘We invite all karter’s especially those in the region to support our club in this initiative and we extend a warm and hospitable welcome to all karter’s to come along to our club and championship events. The track has excellent facilities including canteen, pit, power, & camping facilities.

"As a continuing member of Karting NSW, PMKC provides its members with all the benefits of Karting NSW affiliation including access to KA licences.

As well as its regular club days PMKC is this year presenting the East Coast National Championship series. Featuring Tag & Rotax classes the series, begins on the 13th March with the final round on the 14 August. A total of 8 classes will compete over three heats, pre final and final for round & series trophies as well as a range of product, tyres & voucher prizes. Major series prizes include a Deadly Dave Chassis & IAME engine for seniors and an Intrepid Freedom Chassis for juniors. The club would like to thank the following sponsors for their continued support in these initiatives. The Miedecke Motor Group Port Macquarie. Resource Recovery Great Lakes. DPE Kart Technologies. International Karting Distributors. Trans West Insurance Brokers.
