  • Message to members of the Canberra Kart Racing club:

    LETTER TO ALL MEMBERS

    Dear CKRC Members

As you may be aware the Canberra Track is Closed until 2nd January 2016.

The closure is due to a suspension imposed by Karting NSW.

Karting NSW disciplinary Committee have decided to impose a 30 day ban, due to unlicensed members utilising the track.

The use of the track by those members, in the opinion of the CKRC Committee, has been administrative and procedural errors.

The CKRC committee acknowledges that errors have been made. The CKRC Committee feel the punishment imposed is excessive. However, we have little choice but accept the penalty.

During the hearing, the recommendation made by the NSW Karting Prosecuting Officer was a $1,000 fine. At the time of the hearing and before the penalty was issued, CKRC asked for the penalty to be suspended as the issues were clerical errors, and not ones of a misleading or fraudulent nature. Once the penalty was handed down, CKRC asked for the option of paying the $1,000 recommend, this was categorically denied. CKRC had 30min to appeal and pay $650, which needed to be paid within the 30min. As the hearing was conducted via telephone this option was made near impossible.

Furthermore CKRC feels that the Club was conducting its affairs in the correct manner, by sending off the practice sheets. It is CKRCs understanding that other clubs do not send in the practice sheets, and if we had followed that precedent then the issue would not have been flagged.

The CKRC Committee remain committed to working with KNSW and KA. CKRC will now work on developing a practice procedure that will need to be strictly adhered to by anyone using the track. CKRC also acknowledges that the safety of all drivers is the no1 priority of all concerned.

We remind all drivers that it is your responsibility to ensure your license is up to date and that all Karting Australia rules must be adhered to at all times.

The CKRC Committee apologises to its members for the inconvineince and thank all in advance for your patience during this imposed sanction.

    Eddie Ruiz
    President
    Canberra Kart Racing Club
