Anything karting...

  • Registration has now opened for the 2016 Australian Kart Championship series, presented by Jayco and Castrol EDGE. Registration opened yesterday (Friday November 20 at 5pm) and any competitor who wishes to compete in the Championship is required to register prior to competing in their first round. Race numbers are issued on a first in basis (although #1 to #10 are reserved for the previous year's top ten finishers). The AKC registration page is HERE.

  • The Supreme Court of Queensland has handed down Judgment in the case of John McCleverty Vs AKA Ltd. Basically, McCleverty's 10 year suspension from the Association has been void. The court ruled that two tribunal decisions, plus a decision by the AKA Board, were in breach of the constitution of the AKA. The court's judgment can be downloaded HERE.

  • Via Superkarts Australia: "With the conclusion on the weekend just gone of the final Shannons Nationals series in its current format, the website published a list of the ten drivers of the Shannons Nationals decade. Two Superkarters featured. Ranked #3 is Stuart Kostera, the Western Australian racer guest drove Mark Hanson's Denture Professionals Zip Eagle on a number of occasions, but his ranking is mainly due to his exploits in Formula 3 and of course being a multiple Australian Production Car / AMChamp champion. Ranked #4 is Darren Hossack. Two-time Australian Superkart Champion driving Scott Ellis' series of Anderson Mavericks powered by Scott's own SAFE Evolutions engine and two-time Australian Sports Sedan champ in the mighty John Gourlay owned Audi A4-Chevrolet. Darren's duels with Tony Ricciardello in Sports Sedans are legend but his battles with Warren McIlveen, Gary Pegoraro, Sam Zavaglia, Jason Smith, the Harpas brothers, Russ Jamieson and company were just as good. Congratulations to you both and thank you Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals for all you have done to the Australian motor racing scene and for Superkarting."

  • A lack of entries has seen the cancellation of the 2015 CIK-FIA Asia-Pacific KF-Junior Championship, plus the second round of the CIK-FIA Asia-Pacific KF Championship. This means that Japanese driver Haruyuki Takahashi (below) has won the KF title by virtue of leading the series after the first round. Takahashi won over Ritomo Miyata (Exprit-TM-Dunlop Racing) with Turbo Asahi (Exprit-TM-Dunlop Racing) third. While KF and KF-Junior will not run at the December 10 to 13 event, the CIK-FIA Asia-Pacific KZ Championship will continue as planned.

  • Saw this pic posted on Facebookk by ekartingnews of the kerbing going down in Las Vegas for the Supernationals. It got me thinking - will we ever see a return to street racing in Australia? Contrary to what some people think, the KA rule book does not ban street racing - there is no "there shall be no street circuit karting in this country" clause! In fact, there is a section in the KA Manual that is specifically for temporary circuits. Those of us old enough to remember street meets will recall that a properly promoted and run event does wonders for karting in the local area. It's taking the sport to the public, rather than trying to get the public turn up at some out-of-the-way kart track. The promoting clubs gained new members after running street events. They are a lot of fun to compete in. So, who's going to be brave enough to set up a street circuit that meets KA requirements and get karting back in front of the public?

Above: Permanent looking temporary kerbing going down in Vegas. Kerbs (curbs if you're American) like this mean that barriers should no longer be needed to mark out the circuit limits. And if the barriers aren't on the edge, they can't be clipped, right? (pic - ekartingnews.com)
