Award Night for Jason Richards Memorial

The 2015 Jason Richards Memorial will be presented at the Eastern Creek track on Saturday night, July 18, as part of that weekend's Rotax Pro Tour round.

For the first time in over 5 years, the Rotax Pro Tour will make its return to Sydney’s Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway, staging Round 5 of the National Series and playing host to the fourth running of the prestigious Jason Richards Memorial.

Established in 2012 by International Karting Distributors, the Jason Richards Memorial Award honours the late Jason Richards by recognising a driver’s admirable qualities both on and off the track.

Throughout his time competing in V8 Supercars and the Rotax Pro Tour, Jason always showed exceptional sportsmanship no matter what the result. His hard-charging never-give-up attitude, determination and big smile that we all remember are qualities of a true superstar. Whist in his final battle with cancer, Jason put up the fight to keep his racing dream alive.  His ability to get in and steer a race car, even in his weakened condition, was a truly emotional achievement by one of the most respected drivers in both Australian and New Zealand motorsport.

The 2015 Jason Richards Memorial Award winner will be announced on Saturday 18th July at the Eastern Creek kart circuit, where the recipient will have their name engraved on the perpetual trophy and will receive a memorial plaque to keep.

Previous winners of the award; Troy Woolston (2012), Hamish Leighton (2013) and Steve Ellery (2014) have all been greatly honoured to be held in such high esteem, not only by fellow competitors, but officials and those in the wider Karting community. For Ellery, it held a special significance, a moment of reflection of his racing history with Jason Richards at the top level in V8 Supercars.

Round 5 of 2015 Rotax Pro Tour takes place at Eastern Creek, NSW from 17-19 July, incorporating the 2015 Jason Richards Memorial.
