Cody Donald Goes Back-To-Back

press release 26 June 2015

DJM Race Engineering and their lead driver Cody Donald have teamed up in 2015 and have taken out the Junior National Heavy State Championship with young Donald winning back to back state championships in the Junior National Heavy Championship.

Donald had challenges in the championship from fellow state champion Troy Alger, Australasian champion Simon Fallon and championship round winner John Doria but Donald, after a fantastic championship start in Geelong, never looked in doubt of losing the championship.

Team owner Dylan McLellan was ecstatic after taking out another state championship. “This has been a great result for the team and Cody and his family! To be able to win one state championship is one thing but to be able to go back to back like he has is a credit to him as a driver.”

Donald had a near faultless championship, clean sweeping round one at the Geelong Kart Club in a chaotic final with championship rival Doria and Nick Carroll. Donald then dominated round 2 before being spun around in the final while leading resulting in a DNF. Donald than took another clean sweep at round 3 in Oakliegh before doing the same at the final round at Eastern Lions.

McLellan spoke highly of the class in the young driver. “It was a fantastic way to finish a great championship, he didn’t have to go out and clean sweep the final round but in true Cody style he did and I can’t congratulate him and his dad Darren enough!"

Donald had one of his best race meetings to date in his Junior Clubman entry winning three out of four races. Donald however come unstuck in a frantic final between current national champion Dylan Hollis resulting in a DNF. Although disappointed McLellan was still happy with a showing of great pace.

"It was really disappointing after such a strong weekend for things to end like that. Dylan and him were having a fantastic race and unfortunately these things do happen. The pace he showed against one of the best in the country was very pleasing. Bring on Junior Sprint Classics!"

McLellan also had young guns Fletcher and Beau Harris in the Cadet 12 class. Fletcher and Beau came home in a respectable 9th and 15th place in the 25 kart field showing pleasing signs.

“Fletcher and Beau have done another great job this weekend in a extremely competitive field. The Cadet 12 class is one of the most competitive fields in the championship so they boys have done a great job."

Brett Jenkin had another great weekend in his TaG Restricted Heavy coming home in another respectable third place. Brett charged through the field after a DNF in the pre-final making a great result for the senior driver.

The DJM Race Engineering team will be out at the track again this weekend at all the local Victorian Kart Club race meetings.
