Australian motorsport’s next generation of stars will be on show when Round Three of the Australian Kart Championship is presented by Jayco and Castrol EDGE in Ipswich next weekend (July 4/5).

The Queensland event marks the halfway point in the 2015 Championship with 200 entries having been received across eight classes.

Fresh from a victory at the most recent round in South Australia, Gold Coaster Jack Doohan leads the way in the KA Junior standings as he enters his home round.  After winning the Rookies (Cadet 12) class last year, Doohan has continued his good form into his 2015 campaign and holds a 19-point lead over his nearest rival in the Championship chase.

Pimpama’s Scott Sorensen is the reigning Queensland Champion in the KF2 class and following a win in South Australia last month the Harrington Doyle Racing driver enters his home round as the leader in the chase for the James Courtney Perpetual Trophy.  Sitting a mere two points behind him on the standings is Holden Kart Team driver Liam McLellan.

Former KZ2 Champion Chris Hays of the Gold Coast is currently second in the standings behind Western Australian driver Jake Klarich who has been victorious at the opening two rounds.  Klarich led home Sydneysider Jaie Robson and his CRG team-mate Kyle Ensbey at the most recent round.  Ensbey was victorious in the corresponding event last year and as a result the Sunshine Coast driver will be aiming to defend the Queensland Championship next weekend.

No less than 14 drivers from the Sunshine State will be lining up in the international-level class including Ipswich Grammar School’s Brock Plumb, Gold Coast V8 Utes Champion Kris Walton and multiple-time Australian Karting Champion Tyler Greenbury from Tooowomba.

Victorian teenager Oscar Piastri was last weekend taking on the best young drivers from all across the world at the PF International Circuit in England at the CIK-FIA European Championships, next weekend he’ll be in Ipswich.
The FA Kart driver dominated the opening round of the Australian Kart Championship in the KF3 class before fellow Victorian Reece Sidebottom snared the win in Round Two.  Piastri heads into next weekend with a slender three-point lead at the top of the standings over Sidebottom with South Australian Josh Denton only a handful of points behind.

Brad Jenner made it a double victory with wins in the X30 and KA TaG classes at Round Two.  With this event being held on a circuit where the Victorian has enjoyed significant success in the past, he will again be hard to beat – as will be the experienced James Sera in the KA1 class.

Drivers aged between 10 and 12 years old will take to the circuit in the KA12 class where Victorians Emerson Harvey and Jay Hanson have shared the round wins so far this year.  These drivers will hit speeds of close to 100 km/h around the Ipswich circuit while racing centimetres apart.

The Ipswich Kart Circuit is located on Champions Way, Willowbank.  Entry is free for spectators.
