Record Start To Central Coast Speedway Season

press release 27 April 2015

After two attempts to start the Central Coast Speedway Kart Clubs 2015 Championship season in February and March were halted by rain, Mother Nature once again threatened to spoil to plans of the big double header season opening events.

However it would turn out to be third time lucky for the committee and on Saturday the 18th the season finally got under way with a club round record 76 karters in the pits all ready to hit the track.

The annual Autumn Twilight meeting always attracts extra drivers who come for the rare experience of racing under lights but for the first time at a club round the meeting had 2 oversubscribed classes with both the 23 Junior National class drivers and the 20 Clubman Heavy class drivers needing to be seeded into 2 groups for the qualifying heats before the top 16 points scorers came together for a full field A main event.

Good numbers across all classes ensured that the racing would be hard, fast and close and the drivers did not let anyone’s expectations down and the large crowd that had assembled to watch were left very happy with the display of racing that they witnessed.

The meeting also had a large number of new racing members who all started their racing careers at the meeting and all performed well.

After the feature races had been run and won and the trophies handed out at presentation and the lights were turned out almost on cue the rain started to fall and it would be a long night waiting to see if Sunday’s event would be able to go ahead.

As the sun came up on Sunday morning the rain had cleared and the drivers started to arrive bright and early to play out part 2 of the double header - “The Huckel Excavations 800”.

After such a successful start to the season, the CCSKC committee were very grateful to the 65 drivers who returned Sunday after taking on the cruelling task of cleaning and preparing for back to back meetings.

As was the case Saturday, all the classes had good field numbers with the Junior National Class being oversubscribed again.

The weather was overcast for most of the day keeping the track in good order for the drivers and as a result the racing proved to be just as good as Saturday.
