Karting Australia Speedway Star Ready To Tame Tamworth

press release 22 April 2015

Driving for Maitland based “Phillip Farrow Racing”, Peter Archer has confirmed his nomination for Tamworth’s Oakburn Park Raceway this Saturday night.

A two time “Karting Australia” national speedway champion, Archer was originally scheduled to visit Tamworth earlier this year. While a nagging shoulder injury forced him to withdraw his entry, Archer says that he is now ready to put on a show for the Oakburn Park fans.

“I was extremely disappointed that I had to withdraw my nomination in January. I keep hearing great things about the Tamworth track and its organizers and have been keen to get up there ever since. When the opportunity came up to run on Saturday night, I ceased it with both hands.” Peter Archer said.

Competing in the “Modified” class, Archer will pilot his immaculate “VSR” Powered No. 77 machine on Saturday night and is looking forward to the fast Tamworth track.

“We had our first run of the season last weekend at Gosford and despite an unfortunate mishap in the final, the team was reasonably happy with the result. The chassis is hooked up and Dave Van Schaik has supplied us with another excellent engine. We have all the ingredients required to win this thing, so it’s up to me to get an early handle on the track.” Archer said.

What makes Archer such a fierce competitor is his ability to attack from almost any part of the race track. With that in mind, he is just as comfortable running the top as his is hugging the bottom.

“In my view, if you want to pass karts you have to run where your competitors are not. If they are up top, you need to run low. Likewise, if they are holding the low line, you need to run up top. If you can’t do that, you’re simply following the leader and that makes for a boring race. If the track curators give us a high line, I have no doubt that some of us will use it.” Peter said.

A stellar line up of drivers will join Archer on track and will stop at nothing to spoil his party. Among them will be Tamworth regulars Peter Ellis from Muswellbrook and Maitland’s Jason Bisset. Both have been in scintillating form this season with Bisset coming off a win at Gosford last weekend.

“These guys run hard and fast and don’t often make mistakes. To win, we will have to bring our “A” Game and even then I’m sure they will have other ideas. It should be a fascinating race and I’m sure we can all put on a show for the fans.” Archer said.

On a more somber note, this event will also double as a memorial for Tamworth Speedway Kart regular, the late Skip Barrance. Skip unfortunately lost his battle with cancer a few weeks ago and the speedway karting community is committed to honoring their lost mate the only way he would have liked - by racing hard, fast and fair.

Four divisions of speedway karts will grace the Oakburn Park facility including standards, Modified, Outlaw and 125. Also on the program will be the Street Stock Test Match, Fender Benders, Formula 500’s and Junior Sedans.

Racing is scheduled from 4.00pm on Saturday afternoon.
