Karting News Briefs

  3 April 2015

  • A couple of additional karting April Fools that went around this year:
    • David Sera announced he had hooked up with Gold Kart in a last minute deal to race KZ2 this weekend in Melbourne, with support coming from Monash Health.
    • Patrizicorse announced that "with great regrets and disappointment Patrizicorse has had to withdraw from the Australian Kart Championships with immediate effect." The team subsequently fielded calls from Italy, Switzerland and Brazil, but most of all the Ricciardo Kart drivers who were preparing to head to Melbourne at the time!

  • Karting Australia has reduced the minimum number of entries to form a class at the opening round of the NSW State Championship from eight down to just five. The addendum is dated 1 April 2015 (but we do not believe it to be a joke). The PDF can be found HERE.

  • Similar signs have been displayed at tracks in the past, and now the Ipswich Kart Club has its own, thanks to Pacific Kartsport and CustomDecals. It's a timely reminder to keep your kart racing in perspecitve:

  • The sign above needs to be slammed in the face of participants in the Kart Life "reality" tv show in the USA. I have yet to view a full episode of the show, and maybe judging a program on promo clips and the review of others is not wise. But if the episode wraps on The Community Entertainment website are even half accurate, the parents at the centre of attention in this show are a bunch of jerks. That show is not about karting; it's about overly competitive families seeing who can piss the highest. Surely, not all American karting familes behave like this...
    • Episode 8 wrap (competitor runs his kid illegally, then brags about how he put one over the official)
    • Episode 5 wrap (the reviewer says a parent gives their child a pep-talk more suited to a cage fighter)
    • Links to other episode reviews are within the pages above. A warning - they're sickening.

  • Kartlink provided a link to on-board video of the new Rok DVS direct-drive engine being used on a test day at Lonato (Italy):

  • Also via Kartlink , Lucas Axles have presented a new axle key, 'key way' and grub screw design to the MSA Technical Sub-committee in the UK. The manufacturer believes their system will prevent axle breakages. The new system uses ball-nosed grub screws, axle collar and a pitted key that fits a pattern in the axle that does not cut through the axle wall. • Lusty Industries has announce that both OGIO and SONY Action Cams will be partnering with Kart 1 Racing driver Cody Brewczynski for the 2015 season. "We have been supporting the professional motorsport scene for some time now, primarily drivers from the V8 Supercars series" they informed KartSportNews. "We support entire race teams such as team RedBull Racing Australia with OGIO bags and they all swear by the product. So it has been a no brainer to now market the products towards the motorsport industry as a whole and support drivers from a grass roots level. Cody Brewczynski has been getting some really solid results as of late and driving at a level above his age, but most importantly, we feel he will be a great ambassador of OGIO and SONY Action Cams on and off the track. Cody will be using OGIO’s helmet and gear bags along with SONY’s Mini Action Camera throughout the 2015 season." With further support from CXC Global, Cody will be able to race in both the Australian Kart Championship in the KF3 class and Rotax Pro Tour in Junior Max.

  • TaG Restricted Light is already over the Horsham circuit's 24-kart grid capacity for round 2 of the Victorian Country Series on April 12. However, this class - and any other classes that end up oversubscribed - will run the A, B, C format so everyone gets plenty of racing The Vic vs SA competition looks to continue with 21 from South Australia so far (there were 40 at round 1):
