Launceston Karters Head To Australian Championship Opener

Launceston Kart Club members Troy Stone and Steven Wrigley head off this week to compete in round 1 of the National Karting Championships to be held at the Go Kart Club of Victoria in Melbourne.

Stone will be competing in the X30 class whilst Wrigley will be competing in the new Karting Australia class of KA1.

Both drivers have extensive mainland experience and are looking forward to the challenge of competing against the best drivers in the country. The new national series includes five rounds held in Victoria, South Australia, NSW and Queensland and takes over from the stand alone format used for the past 52 years and replaces the event that was due to be held in Tasmania this year. Both Stone and Wrigley are intending to compete in all five rounds.

Also competing in a National series in young Launceston Karter Mitchell Kerrison. Kerrison has just returned from round 2 of the Rotax Pro Tour held at the Dubbo Kart Track in NSW. Competing in the Junior Max Trophy class Kerrison qualified 5th out of 26 karters however some start line contact with other competitors resulted in mid field finishes in heats 1 and 2. Kerrison was able to driver his way back to the front in the final finishing 6th in the final. He now sit 9th in the series points.
