The 2nd Round of the Warwick Kart Club Championship was held at Sandy Creek Raceway on March 8th. Competitors were greeted with the usual fantastic weather and the friendly atmosphere and almost 60 entries were received.

Cadet 12 was the Feature Class and qualifying was conducted, followed by a Heat, Pre Final and Final, with the Final only counting. For all other classes, random grid draws were the order of the day and racing was conducted over 2 Heats, a Pre Final and a Final with all results to accumulate.

Cadet 9

Ethan Feather had a great day with 4 clear race wins and was consistently half a second a lap quicker than anyone else. Chase Gooding has improved so much in recent times and finished the day with 4 x 2nd placings and getting the better of some great racing with Marcus Watson who finished with 4 x 3rd placings. Harry Lawrence was the best of the large group of P Platers and finished a splendid 4th overall.

Cadet 12

As the Feature Class on the day, the Cadets 12s only got 3 races, but more laps, culminating in a 15 Lap Final only counting. Charlie Ploetz was dominant from the outset, half a second clear in qualifying from Joshua Lawrence and Christopher Christensen and then won all 3 races comfortably, only challenged by Christensen for a few laps at the start of the Pre Final. Christensen finished 2nd in all 3 races, whilst Lawrence and Jared Boys generally battled for 3rd, Boys getting the upper hand in the Final for 3rd.

Junior National Light

Sam McCarthy had a great day in JNL, winning all 4 races and only challenged in the Final for several laps by Marcos Innes. Innes finished with 3 x 2nd placings and a 3rd to finish 2nd overall, whilst Harrison Stock had a great debut in Junior National with some very smart driving to capture 3rd overall. Kevin Ryan and Seth Mathie battled it out for 1st P Plater, with Ryan winning that battle on points.

Junior National Heavy

Caileb Powell and Jade Hardacre were the only 2 JNH entries. Powell winning 3 races and a DNF, ahead of Hardacre’s win in the Pre Final and 3 x 2nd’s.

J Max

Nicholas Lane and Luke Chivers were the only 2 J Max entries and whilst Lane had 4 wins across the day, Chivers gave him some challenges at times and has improved a lot recently.

Qld Sportsman Light

Shane Roberts has had his dominance of Queensland Sportsman Light very seriously challenged this year, but he was still able to prevail with 3 wins across the day and 2nd in the Final to still win overall from Danial Plant who gave Roberts a real hard time all day and got the better of him in the last race, but still finished 2nd on points. Sebastian Blindell continued his great form with 4 x 3rd placings and is not too far off matching Roberts and Plant. These 3 will continue to have some great racing at Warwick this year and are becoming the highlight of the show.

Tag 125 Heavy

Mark Keilar was the only Tag 125 Heavy entry and ran with and mixed it up with the Qld Sportsman Light guys and of course had 4 class wins across the day.

Qld Sportsman Heavy

Ben Lillis continued his great form with victory in Queensland Sportsman Heavy. Lillis won Heat 1 and the Pre Final, got 2nd in the Final and 7th in Heat 2, to finish ahead on points from Kel Farrell who won Heat 2 and also collected a 3rd, 4th and 5th throughout the day. Perry Evans used all his experience to come back from a lowly 9th in the 1st Heat to finish 2nd in Heat 2 and the Pre Final, before a fantastic battle with Lillis and win in the Final.
