Golden Power Series, Round 1

Bendigo held the opening round of the 2015 Victorian Golden Power Series on the March long weekend and with 160 karters taking to the track, there was always going to be some intense racing!

TaG Restricted Light

Brayden Flood led the TaG Restricted Light field into turn one and looked as though he was going to be a runaway winner after taking pole and winning all three heats. Enter Darryl Buck. Buck, after running second most of the weekend, was able to challenge in the early stages on Flood when Dylan Starkey made it a three way battle for the lead! Flood, in an action packed finish, was able to take out a clean sweep with Buck and Starkey rounding out the three. Thomas Freeman and Jack Scanlan battled for the minor spots coming home in fourth and fifth in the final.

Junior National Heavy

Cody Donald led the field out of turn one with Bryce Woollard jumping straight up into second spot. Woollard pulled over at the end of the opening lap leaving state champions Donald and Troy Alger to battle for the lead. Donald looked as though he was going to take the win until he lost a chain and pulled over with 10 to go. Alger was able to take a comfortable victory ahead of a great battle with John Doria, Jackson Rice and Tain Venables. Rice challenged Doria hard but Doria hung on for second over Rice and Venables. Thomas McCulloch rounded out the top 5.

TaG Masters

Smith led away of the start line from Vern Kranz and Brendon Myers. Myers jumped up into second spot to chase after Phil Smith leaving Kranz, Frank Falla and Ian Branson to battle behind. Myers made an early challenge before Smith drove away to take a comfortable win. Myers led home Kranz and Branson was able to jump ahead of Frank Falla who rounded out the top five of the field.

Cadet 12

Fletcher Harris led off the start with his older brother Beau slotting straight into second spot. The two brothers looked to open up a race winning margin when trouble struck for Beau Harris, falling back to fifth spot. Fletcher Harris lead the first half of the race from James Wharton when Fletcher encountered trouble overtaking lapped traffic and was taken out of contention! James Wharton took over the lead until the recovering Beau Harris retook the lead with a few laps to go. Beau was able to take out the win from Wharton and Jack Pennacchia. Nicholas Sacco and Kobi Williams rounded out the top five for the field.

Sportsman Restricted Super Heavy

Golledge leads off the start from Kerwood and Sloan. The top three pulled away from the rest of the field and turned into a three-way battle for the lead. Sloan was able to jump into second place ahead of Kerwood and went after Golledge to challenge for the lead. After a great battle in the final few laps, Golledge was able to hang on over Sloan with Kerwood rounding out the top three. Cameron Austen and Ryan Van Ree rounded out the five.

Junior National Light

Corey Arnett lead off the start with Zakkary Best jumping straight into second spot over Gerry Westerveld. Arnett looked as though he was going to take a clean sweep of the round when Best took over the lead in the early stages of the race. Arnett and Best battled hard until Best was taken out of contention after coming across some lapped traffic! Arnett took out a clean sweep with Westerveld and Nick Trebilcock rounding out the top three. Finn Cassidy and Jaylyn Robotham rounded out the top five.

Cadet 9

Will Harper led away from Beau Russell and Lachlan Brady in position three. Russell challenged Harper in the early laps before Harper was able to drive away and take a comfortable victory over Russell and Brady in position three. Jedd Phillips and Charlee Richardson rounded out the top five.

Junior Performance

Taine Venables led off the start from Matthew Iredale, opening a gap immediately on the rest of the field. Venables and Iredale pulled away from the field leaving Rhys Wagner, Thomas McCulloch and Scott Chaston to battle for the minor positions. Venables was able to drive away from Iredale and take a comfortable win. Mcculloch was able to come home in position three ahead of Wagner in fourth and fastest qualifier Scott Chaston in fifth.

TaG 125 Light

Bradley Marsh got the jump off the start from Daniel Pegg and James Cornfoot. Cornfoot come across trouble in the opening few laps and was straight away out of contention leaving Billy Guttler, Jake Coghill and Regan Clapham to battle for the minor spots. Marsh was able to take a comfortable win over Pegg and a charging Guttler in third. Clapham was able to take a comfortable fourth over Coghill rounding out the top five.

TaG 125 Heavy

James Reynolds led off the start with Michael Brennan and Aron Lawrence following him. Brennan and Lawrence come together on the opening lap allowing Josh O'Neill and Vern Kranz jump up into the top three. Kranz made his way into second spot and tried his hardest to challenge Reynolds, but Reynolds continued to dominate the weekend. Reynolds tooke the win over Kranz, O'Neill, Lawrence and Glenn Campiciano rounding out the top five.

TaG Restricted Heavy

Beau Humphrey led off the start line with Matthew De Stafano jumping straight into second spot right on the bumper of the leading driver. The topped two pulled away from the field leaving a big battle for the minor spots in the top five. De Stafano looked to challenge for the win until kart trouble forced him to retire leaving Humphrey to take an easy win. Ben Dealy and Sam Morrow rounded out the top three with Simon Pace and Herman Van Ree rounding out the top five.

The next round of the Golden Power Series will take be at the newly resurfaced Gippsland Kart Club track at Morwell on the 13th and 14th of the June. Hope to see you all there!
