  • Just because lots of karters are switching from the Comer to the Vortex Mini Rok doesn't mean you have to go burn the Comer... On a serious note, this fire-damaged Comer belongs to Cadet 9 racer Brodie Thomson. Brodie's dad, Matthew, told KatSportNews he noticed smoke coming from their trailer in the pits while at Junior Top Guns on Friday. He assumes something fell across the battery terminals of a remote starter, causing it to spark and set fire to nearby items - such as the Comer. Thankfully, the fire was brought under control before any fuel containers were affected. On a side note, Brodie put in a strong showing but just missed the podium and finished 4th on both nights.

  • A karting track is included in the proposed 'SA Motorsport Park' complex at Tailem Bend, Sout Australia. Alas, it is currently set to be a rental kart facility. The plans below are currently with SA's Development Assessment Commission. The site (corner of Dukes Highway and Mallee Highway, Tailem Bend) already has a skid pad, strip and dirt rally track. The plans comprise a motor racing circuit, drag strip, plus a range of on-road and off‐road events & training facilities. The kart track will be an indoor/outdoor layout of approximately 600m with multiple configurations. A larger scale PDF can be downloaded HERE (3.7Mb).

  • New Zealand karter Marcus Armstrong is heading to Europe to take up a spot with the Tony Kart Racing team. The 14 year-old (15 in July) will run a full season of CIK-FIA and WSK competition in senior KF. He will be based in the UK and race under the guiding eye of  2005 world karting champion, Oliver Oakes. He'll also undertake some Formula 4 testing (with an eye to contest the F4 series in Australia later this year) and up with his school work via correspondence back to New Zealand. Further detail is on Kartsport New Zealand HERE.

  • Remo Luciani had Tillotson Product Engineer David Keary in from the UK and at Oakleigh's Junior Top Guns meeting. The duo was offering technical assistance and advice for users of the new IAME KA100 engine and its Tilloston carburettor. They were also swapping over the pump diaphragm on some engines. Remo explained the first batch of KA100s that were air freighted to Australia in December didn't have the long-life diaphragm fitted. "All the other engines that came in January are ok and have the clear longlife diaphragm" Remo explained. "We're swapping over the others free of charge."

  • Canberra Kart Club has expressed they'll be running the 'old' and new pathway engines as separate classes for the Cadet 9, Cadet 12, JNL, JNH and Junior Clubman classes this year. "Although they will be run on track together, they will be separate at the end of day point score and podium" the club published.

  • Closing date for entries to the 2015 Ladies Race meeting at Lithgow has been extended to January 21. Nominations for the Canteen Ladies Cup are now open (current social licence and a National class kart are required). Supp Regs on the Race Calendar page.

  • A Karting Australia technical document sighted by KartSportNews stated that users of the Vortex Mini Rok engine at Junior Top Guns (Vic) and Club Runs across WA last weekend could only use the size 97 main jet that came with the motor. The reasoning was that there is currently insufficient supply of alternative jets. Similarly, there was inuifficient supply of restrictor sealing nuts for Cadet 9 Roks. As such, the special sealing nut was not required on these motors at those events.

  • Junior National Light racer Nick Schembri won the lucky draw Arrow kart prize at Oakleigh's annual Junior Top Guns on Saturday night:

  • This is not karting, but it does serve as a reminder to not lose your sh*t over something that happens on the race track. It's the CAMS statement about the 18-month ban handed out to Brett Stewart after the final V8 Supercars round in Sydney last month. Read it HERE.

  • Track resurfacing of the Hume International Raceway (Pucka) will commence on Monday, February 2. It is anticipated the works will be complete by late Febraury for the club to run its Feb club day on Sunday, March 1st - meaning there will be two club days in March.
