Preview: Clubman Cup

The Launceston Kart Club will be holding one of its biggest race meetings of the year this weekend when the FT Guy Bodyworks supported KA3 Clubman Cup will be contested.

Drivers from all over the state will converge on Sunday June 2nd, to hopefully claim one of the three Clubman Cups on offer.

Over 60 competitors have entered with Cadet 9 drivers as young as 7 racing.

The meeting also includes the Phil Goss Memorial for the Over 40s drivers.

Lochie Dalton heads up the KA3 Senior Light Clubman Cup field

The feature Clubman Cup classes of KA3 Junior, KA3 Senior Light and KA3 Senior Medium have attracted the cream of Tasmanian drivers with all three defending champions entered.

In KA3 Junior, young Hobart driver Fletcher Bellars is the form driver at the moment but will face tough opposition from Devonport’s Ethan Wyllie and the fast improving pair from Hobart in Patrick Short and Evan Chivers. A trio of home members however will be the ones to watch with Tyson Phegan, William Blair and William O’Grady all keen to keep the cup on home soil.

Reigning Australian KA1 Champion Lochie Dalton heads this list of 13 drivers entered in KA3 Senior Light. Dalton will need to reproduce the form that claimed the Aus #1 if he wants to go back-to-back as former winner Nathan Zuj will be keen to take the win along with Hobart pair Brad Hobden and Gemma Wyllie.

KA3 Senior Medium has defending champion Alastair Lee going for a three peat after wins in 2017 and 2018. The form driver going into the meeting is Brody Appleby though, after a commanding win at Smithton a month ago. Also in contention will be Hobarts Mitchel Evans, Spreyton’s Jordan Distill and Launceston gun Jackson Callow.

Racing starts at 8.30am with full support classes of Cadet 9, Cadet 12, KA4 Junior, KA4 Masters and TaG Restricted.

Full canteen facilities at the track and Entry is FREE
