Q – A first night race for Eastern Creek in nearly a decade, how was it to be back in a kart, and how did you find it racing under lights?

JM – It’s been such a long time since I’ve been back to Eastern Creek in a kart, and I loved every minute of it! It felt quick and racing under lights just made it feel faster and more spectacular. I would love to see more of it!

Q – The on-track action was very close and competitive, what do you think makes karting such an important part of an up and coming drivers development?

JM – I was seriously impressed with the talent in the fields for a club day. I believe being able to adapt to different scenarios is really important as is fighting with other quality drivers on a regular basis, and there certainly were plenty there that night!

Q – How big of an adjustment was it jumping out of your Supercar at Phillip Island, to your Rotax 125 around Eastern Creek?

JM – Mate I was so so slow! It’s very naive to think any car racer can jump into a kart and go well without testing etc. Karters these days are fast, I think it will take me a lot of time and a bit of rib protection to get competitive against these guys and girls, but I really look forward to the challenge.

Q – Thanks for joining us Jon, it was great having you – just to finish with, will we see you back in a kart this year, and where can everyone follow your motorsport journey?

JM – If all goes to plan I’ll be definitely back for the NSW State Championships in July, and maybe the odd club day. I love karting and being back around kids that just love to be on track having fun.

Best place to follow me is on my social media pages under my name Jon Mccorkindale. I’m getting older and slightly wiser, and I love to help any one that is looking at getting into cars and needs any type of guidance, or those just looking for a general chat, so don’t be scared to drop a message!
