A1 Engines took a team of 14 drivers to the recent Victorian Open Championships at the Eastern Lions Kart Club over the weekend. With sunny conditions as many chances the A1 Engines team were looking to take home a strong result.
Cadet 12 A1 Engines had four representatives with Australian Champion Harry Arnett taking home the Victorian Championship after a tough Saturday. Arnett after striking trouble in both of heats on Saturday had to work his way through the field but struck the lead in the final and never looked back taking the win and the Victorian Championship by nearly eight seconds. A1 Engines had other representatives former state champion Fraser Carr, Jedd Phillips and Will Thompson. Carr was able to come home inside the top ten in position ten. Phillips was the next best of the rest coming home inside the top fifteen in position fourteen with Thompson coming home in position twenty-four.
Kobi Williams, James Ceveri and Toby Callow were the representatives for A1 Engines in KA4 Junior Light. Kobi Williams struck trouble in the heats and started out of position five. Williams had a fight in his hands in the early stages of the final to keep inside the top five. Williams got clear of the battle and was able to make it onto the podium in third spot. James Ceveri and Toby Callow both did a great job in the final battling in the back end of an ultra-competitive top fifteen drivers. Callow was able to come home with a strong result in position thirteen with James Ceveri coming home in position fifteen.
In KA4 Junior Heavy A1 Engines had three representatives in Josh D’Ambrosio, Johnny Hill and Zackery Thompson. D’Ambrosio was able to qualifying on pole position, Hill out of third spot and Thompson just outside the top ten in position twelve. Both D’Ambrosio and Hill were in a three-kart battle in the final for the VIC championship. After a grandstand finish and great battle Hill was able to come home in second spot and D’Ambrosio in third with both drivers making the final podium result. Thompson improved across the weekend and was able to make his way into the top ten in position nine in a strong finish to his weekend.

A1 Engines also had four senior drivers representing the team in KA3 Senior Light driver Nick Trebilcock, X30 Light driver Rhys Kemp, Tag 125 Heavy driver Beau Humphrey and Vic Combined Masters driver Heath Jelbart.
Nicholas Trebilcock just missed the top ten in qualifying starting off the sixth row in position twelve. Trebilcock was able to fight inside the top ten majority of the weekend and come home in a strong seventh spot just outside the top ten. Rhys Kemp struggled in his X30 entry over the weekend qualified down in 18th and having a DNF finish in the final. Beau Humphery had a strong weekend running in the top five most of the weekend. An unfortunate end to his weekend occurred when he was involved in an incident in the final dropping him outside the top ten to position thirteen. Jelbart was able to qualify just inside the top five and was able to run there all weekend coming home in fifth spot in the final.
Brett Arnett was happy with the weekends results and noted Harry Arnett’s drive in the final showed why he was the number one karter in the country. “It was a good weekend, Harry showed why he is the best in the country. He was never going to lose once he hit the front and it’s a credit to him. Three podiums and other top five results was a great showing for us for the weekend”.
