NEW TRACK? Plans for a new permanent race track in North Queensland have taken a step closer to reality with Townsville City Council approving the first two stages of the DriveIT NQ facility. Located at Calcium, 40km from Townsville, DriveIT NQ (a not-for-profit association) will include a proper race kart track.

MARS TO EUROPE – American karter Luca Mars will represent the United States in the 2019 FIA Karting Academy Trophy. A long time member of the World Karting Association, Luca has multiple local, regional and national race wins to his credit. “He has been exciting to watch drive on the track, and a pleasure to deal with off of it” said Kevin Williams, President of the WKA. “Out of all the competitors that put their name in to represent the United States this year, he was a clear favorite.”

AZZFAB FEATURE – Melbourne Speedway Kart Club is back at Simpson Speedway for round 7 of the series – and as this is written, it’s still green for a Sunday start! DPE LOADED – It’s a big deal supplying tyres for championship events. DPE Kart Technology produced this time-lapse clip of loading the truck full of MG product for the Newcastle round of AKC.


JUNIOR DEV – Lismore Kart Club was encouraged by the turn out at its first First Junior Development Day for 2019. “The Junior Development Days are designed to improve the skills and understanding of kart set up, race craft and provides a great opportunity for members to improve their lap times overseen by accredited and highly experienced coaches who will be on hand to provide extensive technical training and tips to improve your driving” the club published. “A massive thank you to Richie McLeod and guest appearance from David Russell. A special thanks to Energy Corse who are supporting this amazing event and are a major sponsor of Young Gun Titles 2019.”


ONE BIG EVENT – The Victorian Kart Championship returns to a one-off race meeting for 2019, at Pucka next month:


AUSSIE O/S – That’s an Australian flag inside the name-tag star on Zico Hopkins-Collis’ Mini kart. Zico was born on the Sunshine Coast but now lives in Great Britain. He was competing in the IAME Benelux Series round at Mariembourg (Belgium) on March 17 with the English M-Sport team. Zico finished 14th in the Final.

NEW OPS MAN – Troy Brown has been appointed Operations Manager for Karting (New South Wales) Inc. He will be responsible for every aspect of KNSW’s daily operations and report to the Board. Brown has been involved in karting as a competitor, official, club president, event organiser and volunteer for over 30 years. “He is a well-respected karter and business owner from the northern region who most recently has been instrumental in assisting Clubs of KNSW with implementing our new timing and licensing systems” KNSW advised. “We are so excited to have Troy join the team” said Chairman Dave Filipetto. “This is an important role to the Board and Membership.”
