After a 2017 season of learning in KZ2, which ended with a first European victory at Kristianstad, Adrien Renaudin had clearly stated his ambitions for the 2018 FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2. He was not disappointed, triumphing beautifully at Salbris, before securing his first major international title at Lonato.
TELL US ABOUT THE FIA KARTING EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP – KZ2?
With my team, we prepared for the two Competitions at Salbris and Lonato very thoroughly. We took part in several races early in the season to gain more experience and refine our Sodi / TM Racing equipment. In some Competitions, we were mixed with the Drivers usually racing in KZ, it was hard for me to race in these conditions and fight against the best in the world. When we arrived at the French Kart Grand Prix, we were very sharp.
WHEN DID YOU FEEL THAT THE TITLE WAS WITHIN YOUR REACH?
To tell the truth, I remained focused on my goal, keeping in mind that such a title remains very difficult to win. In France as in Italy, it was imperative not to make mistakes and to finish all the heats among the leaders to start in a good position in the Final. At Salbris, I managed to gain my place on pole position after the Qualifying Heats and I had a perfect Final, leading from start to finish. As I expected, the Competition at Lonato was even more competitive. At home, Italian drivers and teams are very hard to beat.

When I realised that the podium would be difficult to obtain, I ensured the best possible place in view of the title. When I crossed the finish line, I did not know yet that I was European Champion. I realised by seeing the joy of my team members by the side of the track!
CAN YOU LOOK BACK ON YOUR CAREER?
I started in Minikart in 2007, the year I was eight. I then finished as French Vice-Champion in Cadet, then I won the French Championship three times, in National in 2015, and Rotax Max in 2016 and 2017. My first participation in the European KZ2 Championship finished with 8th position. More recently, after the European Championship, I finished 5th in the KZ2 International Super Cup and 2nd in the FIA Karting Endurance Championship at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the JFJ Performance team.
HOW DO YOU SEE THE FUTURE?
The European Championship has opened doors and I think I have found a good situation for 2019…
