Williams got the team off to the best possible start by putting his A1 power entry on pole position in the highly competitive 34 kart field in KA4 Junior Light. In an intense battle with VIC state cup winner Nicholas Sacco, Oscar Targett, Hugh Barter and Cody Maynes-Rutty he was able to hold his nerve by 0.132 of a second.

Arnett in an oversubscribed Cadet 12 field of 73 karters had his work cut out for him. In an intense battle Arnett came out in postion 3 of the 73 only missing pole position by 0.030 of a second with Carter Mobbs and Jack Wells ahead of him.

Kobi Williams strong form in the KA4 Junior class continued in the heats with four race wins giving himself maximum points before the final and putting him out of the box seat for the final. Williams had challenges throughout the heats at times but also was able to take comfortable victories in a few heats with heat 1 winning by 6.7 seconds, heat 2 by a margin of 1.8 seconds, heat 3 by a margin of 1.8 seconds and heat 4 by a margin of 4.8 seconds.

Arnett was super consistent throughout the heats having two second places in heat 1 and 2 before taking wins in heat 3 and 4 for his respective division. Arnett had battles for the win in the opening heats with Jack Wells and Carter Mobbs with both races being decided by under 0.3 of a second.

The final came around and Williams was off pole position but dropped back to position 2 in the opening lap and then got shuffled back to position four with work to do. Williams got back up into the top two and was in the battle for the win with former state champion Hugh Barter. In a great and close battle to the end Barter was able to hold on over Williams by only 0.3 of second.

Arnett was on the outside of the front row for the capacity final and jumped away cleanly and took the lead in the early stages. Arnett led the early stages with at half race distance himself and Carter Mobbs broke away and looked to make it a two kart race for the win. In another fantastic finish and close battle Mobbs was able to take the win by a small 0.06 hundredths of a second in a fantastic finish.

Brett Arnett was slightly disappointed to miss out on both finals but knew what a great start both his young chargers had to the championship.

“It was a great start to the championship and both drivers gained crucial championship points. Its tough to be nabbed in both finals but the boys drove their hearts out and know its a long championship”. A1 Engines will be looking to continue their form at the next round of Australian Kart Championship in Newcastle.
