Big Weekend for MKC at Ipswich

Melbourne Kart Centre tackled the opening round of the Australian Kart Championship over the weekend up in Queensland.

With 14 drivers across four classes the team was looking to have a strong start to the championship.

In the over subscribed Cadet 12 Melbourne Kart Centre had three drivers in Jack Webster, Miley Miller and Cadel Ambrose. After some exciting heat racing from the 73 drivers Miley Miller and Cadel Ambrose were able to make the final race both being inside the top twenty with Jack Webster unfortunately just missing out on making the final. Miller and Ambrose had competitive finals both moving forward from their starting position with Miller coming inside the top fifteen in position 13 while young Ambrose came home in position 16, a great achievement in a field in over 70 drivers.

KA4 Junior Light Melbourne Kart Centre also had three drivers representing in Junior Top Guns winners Jake Santalucia, Marcus Pisani and Caleb Sumich. Caleb Sumich flexed his muscle and showed he can mix it with the very best after coming home inside the top ten in position 8. Pisani and Santalucia after running inside the top fifteen for most of the heats had disappointing finals with Pisani finishing outside the top twenty in position 23 and Santalucia not finishing the final.

KA3 Senior and both junior graduates Emerson Harvey and Jobe Stewart were represent the Melbourne Kart Centre Team. With both drivers qualifying inside the top ten Harvey also in the top five the heat races were quick and the good results came for both drivers with Stewart also getting himself up as high as position 6 in the heats. Harvey was able to have an outstanding final coming home in the top five in position five while jobs Stewart unfortunately struck trouble and had a DNF finish in the final.

In Melbourne Kart Centres biggest class x30 there was six drivers representing the team in former state champion Morgan Feast, Luke Grasso, Daniel Edmonds, Ray Yu Wang, Lucas O’Brien and Antonio Molluso. After some hard fast racing all weekend in one of the most competitive classes of the weekend Molluso was the first MKC runner home in position 17. Yu Wang and Grasso both finished inside the top thirty in position 24 and 26. Feast, Edmonds and O’Brien all struck trouble in the final and had DNF finishes with top fifteen finishes looking likely.

Melbourne Kart Centre Team Manager James Sera enjoyed the weekend and was looking to build at the next round.

“It was a good weekend, great job by Emerson to finish in the top five on his senior debut. We missed a couple of opportunities this weekend and are very much looking forward to the next round”.
