CIK/FIA: Hannes Janker

from CIK-FIA

Passionate about karting since his youth, the German Hannes Janker has just completed his best season at the age of 21: crowned FIA Karting European Champion – OK.

He also finished 2nd in the World Championship. These exceptional results are even more appreciated when remembered that Hannes races karts in his free time, alongside his professional work.

HOW DID YOU SCHEDULE YOUR 2018 SPORTING YEAR?

I decided to compete in a full international season this year. Usually I participate in a few races a year to focus on my studies and now my job. It’s a logical choice. I immediately had the support of Thomas Braumüller, the owner of TB Racing Team, with whom I have been racing for a long time. I was able to compete against the top specialists in the OK category and make strong progress. The results exceeded my expectations! I won the European Championship, the Winter Cup and the WSK Super Master Series. And I finished 2nd in the World Championship. It was truly fantastic!

LET’S GO BACK TO THE FIA KARTING EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP – OK AND ITS FOUR COMPETITIONS

I was very fast from the start, but the first race at Sarno was over due to a collision. I then won at PFI, and at Ampfing, so that I arrived at Aunay with a good chance of taking the title. I had decided to ensure the Championship. The problem with this attitude is to find the balance between a relative cautiousness and at the same time keep up the pace. I think I was a little too careful, especially when overtaking. It’s not easy to slow down!

At the start of the Final, I was a victim of a collision. It unlucky, a simple race, but I was not really worried about the title. This was the first time I was not disappointed to retire in a race!

WHAT WERE THE ELEMENTS OF YOUR SUCCESS?

I already mentioned Thomas Braumüller and TB Racing Team who have always encouraged me. I have to add Dino Chiesa’s new Kart Republic chassis, which proved very competitive in its first year. The team includes the tuner of our Parilla engines, KVS, and of course my mechanic. It is really thanks to them that I was able to experience such a season.
