ACT Government Minister Mick Gentleman turned the first sod for the track extension at Circuit Mark Webber on Friday. “The turning of the first sod marks the official commencement of the works at Circuit Mark Webber” Track Extension Committee Member, James Ordish, said. The track will remain open as works continue on the adjacent block.

ROK Cup Promotions will utilize the push back bumper system in all its series in 2019, beginning with the Florida Winter Tour. The push back rule will be implemented for all classes, except the Shifter/Briggs divisions, in an effort to clean up the racing. “We learned a lot from our research (last year) and what we found is implementing is the easy part; making sure the rule is policed properly is the hard part” explained Garett Potter, ROK Cup Promotions Director of Operations. “Although our program has not had the issues some others have with rough driving, we understand it is now the world standard and it makes sense for us to have this rule in place.”

A short supply of MG Red tyres means the TaG 125 classes – at least, those running outside of the Australian Kart Championship – will be racing on the MG Yellow for a few more months yet. Several clubs and race series are currently advising their competitors they’ll be using Yellows for the opening round or two. This will likely continue through to April when new stock of Reds are due. The exception is the Australian Kart Championship where the TaG class will use Reds from the very first round. “We have limited stock of the MG Red & therefore will reserve 1 set of practice tyres & 1 set of race tyres for TAG competitors competing in round 1 of the AKC” DPE advised in a dealer statement.

Karting Tasmania has advised that “the Yamaha Class (chapter 18) will be using the Dunlop DFM dry tyres in Club and Zonal competition during 2019 in Tasmania. This applies to Juniors, Seniors and Masters. The wet tyre will be the Dunlop KTW14W13” – Mark Close, State Technical Officer.

BRP-Rotax has introduced a new partner to distribute MOJO tyres in Western Canada. While SRA is the distributor of all Rotax karting products and accessories in Canada, former Canadian champion Blake Choquer will now manage the distribution of the official regulation tyres for the Rotax MAX Challenge series, plus additional supply and sales in the specific regions of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. “My biggest goal with this project is to build a network that allows dealers to have tires within a 24-hour time frame, while reducing the shipping costs we currently face today” Choquer said.

With Victorian clubs now allowed to invite drivers from 3 clubs to a closed club event, some clubs are now offering 2-day memberships to get around the restriction. Therefore, it seems any KA-licenced karter will be able turn up at a Victorian club on a closed club race day, take a (cut price) 2-day membership and therefore compete as a local member.
