Well what can I say!! What a cracker way to finish the year! One 2-day event with seniors running on Saturday and juniors Sunday divided by the Christmas party/presentation & fun and games in between!

145 karters fronted up for the Christmas meeting and with temps as high as 38 degrees Saturday & 39 on Sunday, it was indeed a challenge. All the race action and results brought to you by Kev “the noise” Davies.

Saturday

TaG Light

This was a dominant performance from the #99 Praga driver Dylan Rudd! Since moving up to the open class he’s steadily improved to become a real force to be reckoned with. Coming home second was the Zedcorse driver William Seccombe and taking the last podium position was the #20 Castrol sponsored Harrison Stock. After showing early speed Shay Mayes unfortunately didn’t start the final.

TaG Heavy

Travelling from Cooloola Coast kart club once again the #35 of Gaven Whitmore came to have a crack at the locals and he came oh so close, finishing in second place to a very fast Clem O’Mara. Clem had his own dramas with a failed engine in heat 3 almost causing a dnf but he came back to win the final. Christopher Williams got a deserved 3rd and Ryan O’Sullivan finally got the set up right to grab 4th. Jared Neirnert was super quick early on but two DNFs put pay to his hopes of a podium.

TaG Restricted Medium

The showboating class once again turned on the style at Ipswich! Scotty Cleveland deserved a higher place finish, but starting from 12th in the final, what a drive he had to make his way up to 5th – 4th place eluded him by a small margin of 0.3 seconds. Coming home in fourth was the hard charging Joshua Betts. Onto the podium positions, and the super consistent #6 of Jason Smith came in third. The biggest fist pump celebration of the day went to Angus “kimmi” Mathers who had a heat win earlier and was on fire all day! But the win, and a well deserved win it was, went to the in form “welzie” #11 Brett Wells!

TaG Restricted Masters

What a cracker of a day Billy “jiffy” Miller had. In the final he held his own to eventually finish 5th. It was the Gold Coast man and Toowoomba member who is rumoured to have a SPA in his base station at Karting events, Terry Grant, who came home a close 4th but the podium went a little like this – the #69 of Tim McDonald managed a great third place, in second (perhaps the best bare chest in the pits!) the likeable and equally fast Aaron Rabjones, but it was an awesome display of controlled driving that saw the flying #76 take another win at Ipswich kart club, Ashley Lester!!

4SS Senior

We have a new contender for giving the best “Bird” to the commentator (all for fun of course) and that honour went to Michael Patrizi, who also managed after a certain amount of show boating to come home with a comfortable win! In second place it was the #66 of Matty Turpin. Unfortunately a DNF for Troy Morrissey in the final who had a day he would rather forget with several mechanical dramas.

X30

The Zupps sponsored #35 of Aaron Williams moved up from juniors to the senior class to make his debut at Ipswich and drove really well all day to come 4th. In 3rd place, and giving the boys a real run for their money, was Zedcorse driver Rianna O’Meara-Hunt. A hard fought second went to DPE’s very own Adam Mercer, this weekend driving a Kosmic kart, but it was a faultless weekend from the Inox sponsored JC Kart driver Scotty Sorensen who took a very dominant win!

KA3 Senior

Moving up to the KA3 Seniors for the first time this weekend was Tommy “the hitman” Cooper. He was on the pace all day but the extreme heat got the better of him and he was unable to take his starting position in the final. Lewis Herwin came mighty close to a podium just finishing 4th. He was just beaten by Lachlan “the turkey man” Nichols! In second place it was the impressive #4 Nathanial Harrison, but for the second meeting in a row it was a very impressive win the #22 JC kart of Jai Brown.

TaG Restricted Light

Another really competitive weekend in one of the most anticipated classes! Coming home in 5th was the #66 of “dodgy” Mitch Campbell. Melanya Rudd drove really well all weekend to finish in 4th place in the final. The earlier mentioned anticipation was for the next placed driver! That was Eryn Osborne coming back to the Restricted class for the weekend to give the club champion a challenge for fun! She eventually came home third just being beaten by Dallas Oksanan. Once again the win went to the unstoppable #25 of Ashley Davis. Now with higher grade licence holder coming down to the Restricted class it meant that Melanya Rudd was promoted to 2nd place and “Dodgy” Mitch Campbell was promoted to 3rd. A word must go to a proper podium chance #48 Jeremy Glover who was unfortunately disqualified from the final after going under weight (more pies needed).

Sunday

Cadet 9

Another great race day from the little people! Coming home 5th and on the pace all day was Toby Musico. In 4th, just missing out on a podium this weekend, was “Dima” Basilio Micale. Onto the podium positions and grabbing a hard fought 3rd was the zedcorse driver Jenson Burns, and just beating him to second was James Cittolin. But showing them all a clean pair of heels all weekend was Aerocorse driver Paddy Buckley! #fistpump!

Cadet 12

Once again this class proved to be super competitive and as pre-race favourites struggled to stay with the pace, some using old tyres and some struggling with set up it was the #56 of Lachlan Platten who eventually grabbed 5th. Coming home 4th it was an excellent drive from Max James. Onto the podium positions and it was an excellent performance from the #12 of Jordan Ensbey in 3rd. Coming home second, and what a day of racing he had so very nearly getting the win, it was Ryan MacMillan, and securing the win by a kart wheel length on the line was Michael Janusz! What a final it was!

KA4 Junior

Once again a very competitive class and it wasn’t without it’s fair share of dramas. Eventually finishing in 4th place, an excellent drive from the number #55 of Zane Rinaldi. Coming home in 3rd was the second James brother to podium on the weekend, the #44 of Samuel James. In second place it was a fantastic drive from the #57 of Kurtis Tennant who started the final from 7th! And the win went to the flying #22 on the day of Oscar Targett.

KA3 Junior

Another very competitive race day for this class and what a performance from Jacinta Hoey coming home 5th and very competitive all day. In 4th it was the number #29 of the “RockStar” Brady Mitchell. The first of the podium positions was taken by the #33 of Jack Hotter after a Stella drive. Finishing on the second step of the podium was the very competitive Conner Roberts, but yet again “Cool Hand” Luke Pink proved unbeatable taking another convincing victory!

Cadet Beginner Demonstration

Little Xavier Knight was able to get on track and receive some personal coaching to improve his lap times. He was then joined by some of the Cadet 9 drivers and he finished the day knocking over 10 seconds off his personal best!

And that’s a wrap of the Capri Cup!
