Bray 2nd at KZ2 Super Cup! Fife DNF

New Zealand’s Daniel Bray has finished an excellent second at the KZ2 Super Cup at Genk, Belgium, overnight.

Driving with the relatively small GP Racing Karts team, Bray started P3 and moved into second place in the opening laps. He trailed eventual winner, Tony Kart’s Matteo Vigano, but was never quite close enough to throw a challenge for victory, admitting he “burned the rear tyres off” the kart before concentrating on maintaining the gap back to third place.

Vigano won the final, having been the dominant driver across the weekend, by 1.454s over Bray with young David Vidales (Tony Kart) third.

A special mention for Birel-ART’s Riccardo Longhi, charging through the field and making up 23 positions to take 5th at the flag.

Canberra’s Joshua Fife started P14, but fell to 19th at the start. He was able to move his way up to a strong 11th but, with just two laps to go, the chain snapped, forcing him to drive off the road and into retirement at the final corner.

“So that means I’m 25th in the world for this year” he wrote on Facebook.

“Had good pace in the Final being 3rd fastest!! Big thanks to Tom for all his hard work and dedication, Energy, Galiffa, Capital Gas Works and Mum and Dad.”

In the KZ World Championship class, Patrik Hajek (Kosmic/Vortex) dominated the final, of which the opening laps resembled a demolition derby; Marijn Kremers (BirelART/TM) and Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart/Vortex) clashed on the opening lap (both restarted and made the finish) before Jonathan Thonan (BirelART/TM) and Anthony Abbasse (Sodi/TM) wiped each other out.

Hajek beat home Rick Dreezen (Kart Republic/Parilla) and Fabian Federer (CRG/TM).

Local driver Kobe Pauwels won the Karting Academy Trophy round final, while second placed Jose Maria Navalon Boya took out the Championship.
