Superkart Cup, Round 3

Round 3 of the 2018 Superkart Cup was run at Mallala on Sunday July 29th, in the usual changeable weather conditions that we have experienced this year.

NGB Light and Stock Honda

It was the usual suspects who were at the front during round three. Most prominent was James Gorman who ran in NGB Light (#12) and Stock Honda (#21), sweeping all 4 races in each.

In NGB Light it was the Brothers Rod and Doug Savage who held off challenges from Sokhon Pin and James Boden during the day to take the remaining podium positions.

The days hard luck story was Harry Georgiou who had the speed to run at the front, but was unfortunately run off the road in heat two, and was unable to claw back sufficient points to claim any silverware.

Matt Lane chased Gorman all day in the Stock Honda class, but was unable to find a way by during the day.

NGB Heavy

Only two entries raced in the Heavy class at this round. Brandon Stillwell sealed 4 heat wins during the day whilst trialing a series of new parts in the early races. When the skies opened up in heat 4, he set about trying to catch and pass as many of the Light class drivers as he could. After some spirited battles, especially with young James Boden, Brandon crossed the line to steal 2nd outright by the smallest of margins.

Brandon’s father Greg made his racing return after time off due to heart surgery. During the day Greg settled back into a rhythm and had a good battle with Junior competitor Sebastian Amadio.

250 and 125 Gearbox classes

Chaz Maddern (#4) and Shaun Jones (#84) proved the most consistent to take out the 250cc and 125cc Gearbox classes respectively. A mixture of mechanical dramas and bad luck kept usual front runners Mark Vella and Danniel Amadio off the top step.

Whilst a suspected engine failure put an end to John Constants day in 250 class.

The Superkarts will be back in action at Mallala on the 16th of September for the 4th round of the Superkart Cup.
