Preview: Launceston’s Clubman Cup

The Launceston Kart Club will host the time honoured Clubman Cup race meeting this Saturday July 7 with support from FT Guy Bodyworks. Over 60 competitors from around the state will converge on the Archerville kart track.

Defending champions Nathan Zuj (KA3 Light) and Alastair Lee (KA3 Medium) head the list of entrants and are keen to go back to back. Zuj will need to be at his best to hold off Hobart’s Brad Hobden, Launceston hotshoe Lochie Dalton and circuit racing star and Porsche Carrera cup driver Adam Garwood.

Lee, who has been racing at rounds of the Australian Kart Championships this year with the AWC Motorsport Academy, will also need to be at his best to hold off locals Murray Dadson, Troy Stone, Zane Wyatt, and a host of traveling competitors in Jordan Distill (Devonport), Mitch Evans (Hobart) and Daniel Hinds (Smithton).

In the KA3 Junior race a new winner will be crowned with all drivers competing for a Clubman Cup for the first time. locals Tyson Phegan and William Blair will take on Hobart’s Fletcher Bellars, and Evan Chivers along with Smithton’s Logan Dixon and Devonport’s Ethan Wyllie.

The support classes will also see some close and exciting racing with Cadet 9 , Cadet 12 and Tag Restricted all supporting good numbers.

The one day race meeting will be held on Saturday with racing commencing at 10am and finals finishing by 4pm. Entry is free with full canteen facilities available to spectators.
