Agius Poles as Pro Tour Heats up in Ipswich

Local drivers and Series favourites have started racing strong at the third round of the Rotax Pro Tour at Willowbank, while Taylah Agius has become the first female to qualify on pole position in Rotax DD2 in Australia. Agius in her Boost Mobile Z-Corse backed kart was among the top three throughout the day and her performance in qualifying has led the Gold Coaster to confirm participation in the remainder of the season.

With the first place in Team Australia up for grabs this weekend, the racing has been right on throughout the day. Series leader, Ryan Kennedy has staked a solid claim to be that driver with three comprehensive race victories, while his closest adversary Nikolaj Thomas has been in the top four fight throughout the three heats.

In DD2 Masters, Scott Howard has started off on the right foot with three victories in today’s heat racing action. He has been pushed all the way by an angry pack that has included World Champion, Troy Woolston and Kris Walton. Walton and Howard nearly collided on the last corner of the final heat race today, Walton taking an excursion across the grass at the final corner.

Ben Jurczak has been the pace-setter in Rotax Light. The local Praga driver won the first two races before in the third one a late race lunge on then-race leader Harrison Hoey at turn one saw both drop back down the order, opening the door for Top Gun Racing Academy JC Kart driver, Reece Cohen to take the win. The Rotax Light Rankings points after the first round of heats are expected to be mixed with a number of front runners qualifying down the order and battling to make their way forward.

Ethan Feather has really pushed Mini Max Series leader Costa Toparis throughout today’s affairs. A mistake by Toparis saw him drop to third in the opening heat, before Feather outpaced the New South Welshman in the second heat. In the third, Toparis – in the Shayne Piper Race Engines Kosmic got his day back on track with a comprehensive victory. Aiva Anagnostiadis is having her best performance at a Rotax Pro Tour event qualifying and finishing each race in third.

Praga driver, Ryan Wood has been unstoppable in Junior Max. After being rubbed out for a technical infringement at the last round, the Kiwi has fired back in devastating fashion with three race wins today. Jaiden Pope has been right with Wood with Luke Pink in the Lauxes Praga having a tremendous run, one of his best in the Pro Tour as well. Jackson Rooney, who qualified on the front row, has been among the front-runners, while James Wharton has been battling his way forward in the Shamick Racing kart after qualifying seventh.

Chris Farkas has made an outstanding return to the Pro Tour in Rotax Heavy taking three dominant wins. Lane Moore has been right there with him, however suffered a broken chain in heat race two. Mitchell Wall who qualified on the front row has been among the top three with Jarrad Neinert and Zac van Leeuwestyn in the fight as well.

Jake Rutkowski has taken two narrow wins in Micro Max, but all competitors are tightly matched. The other winner today was Peter Bouzinelos who has been right there throughout the day keeping Rutkowski honest. After stealing the pole at the end of qualifying – his first in Rotax Pro Tour – Z-Corse Kosmic driver Jaxson Burns has been in the top three with his brother Jenson and Max Walton also pressuring.

Sunday’s racing starts at 8:00am at the Ipswich Karting facility on Champions Way, Willowbank. Entry is free to the public.
