Joe Chalmers Stars at Jennacubbine Dirt Karts

By Brad Mitchell

The Jennacubbine Dirt Kart Club held its second club day under beautiful autumn sunshine over the weekend of April 28 & 29 2018. A good turnout of 106 drivers were on hand at the track which is located 120km east of Perth.

Smokin’ Joe Chalmers was the star of the weekend winning all three of the classes he entered. With a combined tally of fifteen starts for a staggering return of 12 wins, two seconds and a DNF.

Mikey Green was the most consistent driver across the weekend in Juniors driving his Apache chassis and was rewarded with a fantastic win overall defeating Ryan Crofts by seven points after the five races.

Joe Chalmers and impressive Busselton driver Harry Wells both finished on 77 points in KT Light, but it was Chalmers who claimed victory on a countback. Chalmers backed up the KT Light win by then dominating in KT Medium by winning four of the five races. Second place went to fellow Team BCM Motorsport driver Scott Veen. Willem Passchier powered his BRK to the win in a smaller than usual field in KT Heavy.

Both 125 classes continue to provide the biggest numbers. Despite a field of twenty 125 Lights, Joe Chalmers still managed to win five races from five starts to win on a 100-point maximum. Second place went to Jade Walton who drove five very good races and Brandon Bain finished in third.

Mathew Bain won the very competitive 125 Heavy class winning two of the five races across the weekend. Matt Varis would finish second from the eye catching #15 kart of Scott Brook.

Former Australian Junior Light champion Nathan Chalmers was too good in 100 Open by also winning all five races. Another former junior driver Lachlan Horton impressed by finishing in the runner up spot. Only three A Grade drivers were on hand with Shane Coumbe winning from John Passchier and Nathan Walton.

Thirteen of those things with wings the 250cc powered Outlaws were on hand and provided some terrific racing across the weekend. Mark Davis took the win from Busseltons Corey Gower and Jake Montgomery.

The sports smallest drivers in Midgets and Rookies might be small in statue but they certainly have heavy right foots and produced plenty of action in both classes.

The Jennacubbine club must be congratulated on the vast improvements made to the venue in the last couple of years which further improves the sport in Western Australia by having another top-class facility. In fact, the sport of dirt karting in Western Australia is booming and one of the reasons is every club is helping one another to improve. The dirt karting community is UNITED in Western Australia and the results are in the massive participation numbers at club level.
