Round 2 of the Central Coast Speedway Kart Club Championship was held at Gosford Showground on Sunday 18th March.
This round will now be known as the great SPEEDWAY SWELTER. With temperatures hitting 40 degrees throughout the day for the racers in 5 categories.
In Cadet 9, duellers from Round 1, Dylan Kelly and Mark Angilley once again made the podium in 2nd and 3rd respectively, however it was Bailey Carter who showed this championship will be hotly contested winning 3 of the 4 races including the feature to take 1st place for Round 2. Rebecca Garland had a crackerjack day, taking third in the final and 4th overall and is a constant improver.
Cadet 12 was an epic battle over the 4 races between Luke Angilley and Jarrod Garland with Luke taking 3 of the 4 races, narrowly over Jarrod, whilst Jarrod prevailed in Heat 2.
Luke now has a perfect 2 from 2 record to start the season but you can be sure the Garland pit won’t be lying down for future rounds.
Third places on the day was shared amongst the field with Tyson Risbridger, Leah Kelly and Jacob Hensby all claiming a 3rd . Jacob had a solid meeting and took third place overall.
P Plater Chad Baumann showed his great potential with a 3rd place in Heat 1.
In Junior KA4, speedster Jac Laneyrie was back and showed why he has been Oz champion with an overall win on the day. Nathan Thompson and Rhys Birkett completed the podium. Great to see higher numbers in the Juniors in 2018 with the promotion of several of last years Cadet 12 racers.
KT lights is a favourite for spectators on race day and it’s not for the faint hearted. This was no more evident in the smash up of Race 1 which saw Morley v Morris battle it out after the other 4 were involved in incidents. Gary Morris and Sean Morley put on a show all day and tying on 86 points (Gary winning on countback). Nick Gilbert snuck into third on countback from Caitlin Genner who is creating her own havoc in the category. Special mention to Brooke Wray who had a fine racing debut, culminating in a 3rd place in the feature.
In KT Medium, the Hosie brothers went to war in their very own version of family feud. Steve took the family honours this time around, winning from Wayne and the ever-present Andrew Walkerden. The P Platers in the category waged their own war, narrowly behind the big guns with Andy Duncan not only grabbing a solid third place in heat 1 but also entertaining the crowd with an attempted free ride on the back of fellow P Plater Paul Zaia’s Kart.

A great day all round in very difficult physical conditions.
CCSKC races once a month at Gosford Showground with competitors ranging from 7 to 62 years of age. CCSKC holds ‘Come ‘n’ Try’ days throughout the year, which offer everyone a chance to have a go before making a commitment to the sport.
