Having initially made a competitive debut, which saw him contest the bulk of his racing in Victoria, completing the full Victorian Country Series and winning four of the six rounds to take out the overall series point score, Ponting also completed three rounds of the Australian Karting Championship with the Shamick Racing Team at Todd Road, Geelong and Monarto, where the 8-year-old racer from Cobden in the south-west of Victoria whet his national competition appetite.

Despite also being named Victorian Karter of the Year and joining the likes of past award winner and current Supercar driver Jack Le Brocq, following scoring runner-up results in City of Melbourne Titles, the Junior Classic and the Junior Sprint, as well as placing third overall in the Victorian Title and third in the second day of the Top Guns event, he has continued to go from strength to strength in his second year.

Significantly improving on his lap consistency and overall race craft, Ponting began 2018 in the strongest of fashions, winning a recent Victorian Country Series round at Cobden, before achieving his biggest win yet in the opening Australian Karting Championship round just one week later.

Planning to contest the full Australian Karting Championship this year, which consists of five rounds, with the next four being held at Albury Wodonga (NSW) for the next round, followed by the Newcastle (NSW), Emerald (Qld) and Todd Road (Vic) rounds, Ponting will also participate in each of the blue-ribbon events he contested last season, along with as many rounds of the Victorian Country Series as possible.

Currently sitting a single point shy of the lead in the Australian Karting Championship point standings, Ponting is dedicated to gaining as much experience as he can this year and hopes to come away with a top-three finish in the overall point standings, along with another top-three result in the Victorian Title.

Ponting would like to thank the following 2018 sponsors for their valued support: Anarchy Kart Sport, Immaculate Image Design, and Pace Images.
