Car Confirmed as Velocity/Compkart’s First Oz National Champion

Joshua Car has been confirmed as the first National Champion for the Velocity Kart Shop COMPKART team following a post-event protest being dismissed by a Karting Australia tribunal.

17-year-old Car adds the 2017 X30 Australian Title to his second placed finish in the TaG National Series and fourth in the 2017 Rotax Pro Tour DD2 Championship.

As a result, he will be off to the IAME International Final to represent Australia in Le Mans, France from October 9-15.

“It is a great feeling to finally say that I am the National Champion,” Car said after the decision was handed down. “It has been a tough couple of weeks waiting for this to happen, I’m glad it is finally over and done with.



“My COMPKART never missed a beat all year. The Velocity Kart Shop team put in an outstanding effort to deliver me the product to get the job done in X30 and also be runner up in the Australian Kart Championship’s TaG category and be among the frontrunners in Rotax DD2.

“We’re off to the IAME International Final in France now and hopefully can continue the success there.”

It has been an outstanding year for the growing COMPKART brand, manufactured by J3 Competition in Pennsylvania, USA. First breaking covers in 2015, it has been a rapid rise for the COMPKART chassis in Australia.

As exclusive Australian importer of COMPKART, Velocity Kart Shop – headed up by Steve and Matt Macken – has had an extraordinary year of growth for the brand in Australia as well as tasting significant success on the track.

COMPKART drivers have won five State Championships in 2017 and in addition to Car’s Australian Championship, Z Corse COMPKART driver, Kris Walton won the Rotax Heavy National Series. He also finished second in the Rotax DD2 Masters Series and will represent Australia at the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals between November 4-11 in Portugal.

Junior star, Harrison Hoey secured one victory in Junior Max and finished the National Series second overall.

Podiums were achieved by COMPKART sub-Juniors Kamal Mrad, finishing 5th in the Micro Max Championship, and Jack Childs, finishing 9th in the Mini Max Championship at the Rotax Pro Tour; whilst Velocity Kart Shop-backed driver, Cody Brewczynski won the Puckapunyal round of the Rotax Pro Tour and finished second overall in the Championship.

Cody will head to the Rotax Max Challenge, along with Jaiden Pope in Juniors – who finished fourth in the Junior Max Series.

Other drivers to excel in the COMPKART chassis over the season included Terry Hanly and Dean Wanless in DD2 Masters, Luke Wanless in Rotax Light, Lewis Hodgson in KA3, along with Jenson and Jaxson Burns and Max Walton in Micro Max.

“It has been a sensational year for Velocity Kart Shop,” said owner, Steve Macken from his Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway location in Sydney.

“We’re thrilled for Joshua Car to have been confirmed as National Champion in X30. All of our drivers this year either under the Velocity Kart Shop or the COMPKART banner have performed with distinction.

“The presentation from our drivers and the way they carry themselves at each event on the national stage brings a great deal of pride to our brand and to us as Team Owners.

“To finish second in the Manufacturer’s Cup in the Rotax Pro Tour is a huge achievement – we’re a small team with a lot of heart that can and has obtained some big results.”

Velocity Kart Shop is preparing for an even bigger 2018 with even greater support from the COMPKART factory.

“We’re getting ready for a bigger presence in 2018 for COMPKART nationally,” Macken added. “We’ll have entries in the Australian Kart Championship and Rotax Pro Tour, along with State and Regional events.

“Being located at Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway is an ideal place for us to operate Velocity Kart Shop and we invite anyone thinking of switching to COMPKART to come see us and see how good the product is first hand at the track, which is right outside our front door.”

The Karting Australia National Calendar is anticipated to be launched shortly.
