Italian Karting Championship, Round 4

It has been a particularly intense weekend at the Adria Karting Raceway. The fourth round of the Italian ACI Karting Championship has in fact been close to the record presence of 300 drivers including the support race of the Entry Level alongside KZ2, 60 Mini, ACI Kart, ACI Kart Junior, OK-Junior and the three classes of KZ3 Junior, Under and Over. The Italian ACI Karting Championship has set a record that was celebrated in the best possible way with great races on the track.

Surprising results did not go missing either, starting from KZ2, the highest category that saw 45 drivers making it to the track in Adria. Italian 2016 Champion Francesco Celenta (Praga-TM) got early on to the fore quite ready to get some ground back in the classification. The driver from Salerno got full haul in qualifying and heats. In the first final he got off to a good start taking the lead, but with 5 laps to go he had to give up due to a puncture when tasting the victory. The first position was therefore inherited by Danilo Albanese (Tony Kart-Vortex), but a penalty due to jumping the start relegated him to P3, handing the victory to the Croatian Kristijan Habulin (TB Kart-Tm) who led Pasquale Tellone (EKS-TK-Iame). Classification leader Marco Zanchetta, on Maranello-Tm, managed to close his effort in P8 after an excursion. The eighth place earned Zanchetta a pole position start for race-2, due to the top 8 grid inversion. The young driver from Naples, Giuseppe Palomba put in a great race-2 instead taking the victory on Intrepid-Tm after shining in the previous rounds. From the fifth place of race-1, Palomba started attacking Zanchetta taking him in the closing laps. Zanchetta was finally overtaken also by Albanese, who has been among the quickest during this weekend. Celenta was ninth, while race.1 winner Habulin had to retire due to an incident at turn one. Zanchetta managed to keep his classification lead anyway.

KZ2 podium

Category 60 Mini had an excellent number of drivers – 81 – on track in Adria. The victory in the two Finals went to the main contenders of the championship: the two Sicilians Alfio Spina on CRG-Tm – who won Race-1, and Gabriele Minì, on Parolin-Tm who claimed the win of Race-2. The latter is leading the classification. Among the quickest, the Norwegian team mate of Spina Martinius Stenshorne was third in Race-1 behind Spina and Minì, and the American Ugo Ugochukwu (Energy-Tm), who split Minì and Stenshorne in Race-2.. Spina was fourth at the end of a very tight second final.

A total of 65 drivers competed in the two categories using Iame engine. The victory of ACI Kart’s Race-1 went to Danny Carenini as Carlo Aldera and Vittorio Maria Russo, completed the podium all on Tony Kart-Iame, while Race-2 was won by Aldera who was followed by Marco Settimo (Birel-Iame) and Cristian Comanducci (Tony kart-Iame). ACI Kart Championship is currently led by Carenini.

Mini podium

In ACI Kart Junior, the first of the two Finals was won by the Brazilian Matheus Morgatto Alvarenga (Parolin-Iame) who proceeded classification leader Aleksander Bardas (DR-Iame) and Federico Albanese (Tony Kart-Iame), while the victory of the second race went to Bardas from Federico Cecchi (Tony Kart-Iame) to Morgatto, who was again on the podium in P3.

OK-Junior had 15 drivers at the start. Francesco Raffele Pizzi (Luxor-Lke) won Race-1, leading Giuseppe Fusco (Formula K-Lke) and Luca Bosco (Tony Kart-Vortex) after several penalties handed due to too much aggressiveness shown by some drivers. Race-2 was won by the Russian Alexey Brizhan who proceeded Bosco and the Croatian Matija Jurisic (Tony Kart-Lke), as Francesca Raffaele (Evokart-Iame) was fourth. Bosco and Francesca Raffaele were later on handed a penalty and Jurisic and Roberto Papalia (Zanardi-Tm) inherited the second and third place.
