Karting instructor Jay Howard has qualified for this weekend’s Indianapolis 500. That’s a bit like Troy Hunt or Dave Sera qualifying for the Bathurst 1000.
Howard runs driver development sessions at NOLA Motorsports Park in New Orleans, the location of the 2013 Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals. NOLA sent in the following press release about their guy who overseas the centre’s karting program.

Jay Howard will be returning to the Verizon IndyCar Series this month to race in the Indy 500 as driver of the Schmidt Peterson Motorsports No 77 Honda sponsored by Team One Cure and the Tony Stewart Foundation.

Howard will be one of 33 drivers competing in the 101st running of the famous race on Sunday May 28, 2017. On Sunday May 21st Howard qualified with a four lap average speed of 229.414 MPH. Howard will be starting in 20th position on Row 7.
The British born Howard spends time in New Orleans at NOLA Motorsports Park working with his Motorsports Driver Development program where he oversees the competitive karting program helping to develop the next generation of professional drivers. Under Howard’s leadership, NOLA Motorsports Park hosted both the Texas Pro Kart Challenge and Superkarts!USA races in early 2017.
Howard also owns a team in the F4 Championship, which is an entry level open wheel racing series. F4 hosted an official test at NOLA Motorsports Park Mardi Gras weekend.
